Honestly, I don’t know how you guys keep up with it all. And it’s a little irritating to be enjoying a thread and then have it closed because some poster dared to talk about his wife’s mustache.
Kill the patient before u amputate his leg!!
Otherwise, I agree. Its weird the stuff the mods find weird while embracing other weirdness.
Your link failed to work.
Yes, given your extremely informative contribution to that thread, it was obvious you were “enjoying” it.
If you’re really interested in the topic of facial hair on women, you could open a thread about it yourself to discuss it.
Or, he could just shift to this thread, it has more potential.
The thread wasn’t closed because some poster dared to talk about his wife’s mustache. Wife mustaches is not a banned topic. Generally speaking, if anyone wants to talk about their wife’s mustache, feel free. It’s not a topic that I personally find enjoyable, but hey, to each his own.
The thread was closed because it was started by a particular poster and concerned a topic (his wife, not the mustache) that this particular poster has been problematic with, so much so that a topic ban was given to this poster.
Topic bans in general aren’t put in place just because we think a topic is weird. Topic bans are generally used when a particular poster has a problem with a particular topic. Also, generally speaking, topic bans work. I can think of several people who currently have topic bans in place, and as long as they avoid those topics, their posts on the SDMB are generally perfectly acceptable and their contributions are welcome here.
Banning them seems excessively harsh.
I understand all this. It just seems like it’s more work than it’s worth.
Bahhhh…
I’ll take poster specific restrictions on posters with specific posting style/topic problems rather than problems that are never addressed.
I take it you don’t remember the poster that derailed/thread shitted/got closed more threads and got pitted more times and with more volume than any other poster in history.
The powers that be COULD have imposed some rules on his ass that would have stopped that shit. But instead they let it fester for years before the actual banning that had little to do with his actual “style” (kinda like Al Capone getting it for tax evasion).
I’ll take targeting problem posters for their particular problems rather than wringing their hands about some sort of ideal of not trying to ban a poster and just letting it bug the shit of everyone for years any damn day.
Billfish…if its who I think it is not only wasnt he banned but he posted as recently as the last couple days.
My guess is that it isn’t too taxing. I modded a board once, and generally once you told someone off you’d have someone else reporting every single time they messed up again. There’s probably been one of those guys everywhere I’ve ever been, come to think of it.
Nope, I’m thinking of Dio the you know who.
Who he had pictures of fucking gawd knows what I can only guess.
It’s hard to get behind a member and their “right” to post weird stuff when that member shoves a warning back in the face of the mods like he did with his “toys and girls” video.
So yes, the mods played this one according to Hoyle.
I agree. In this particular case, I’d be in favor of more topics being banned, not less.
It’s not so bad once you get used to it. For example, I can’t talk about
What thread are you all talking about?
We can’t say.
I don’t suppose the mods are open to suggestions as to poster-specific topic bans?
I think that such a suggestion would best be handled by PM.
Best solutions for female moustaches?
