It’s pretty potent stuff, eh?
Jesus.
ETA: I was prescribed Quentiapine/Seroquel, as I said in this topic/post. Mostly I made this topic just to get others experiences with it.

Do you have x-ray vision now?
Can you “hear” the Internet? Do you know when someone needs moderating even when you’re not online?
I heard it has a feminizing effect in rare cases.
I can’t help wondering what brought this up? Context is important
Is this related to the health issue you posted about?
Be careful with that stuff. I’ve heard of it causing some sleep walking or something, I think.
I was prescribed it about a week ago. I figured I’d make a topic about it and see if anyone else has ever taken it and if it was as powerful for them as it is for me. I’ve heard it’s a pretty powerful sedative in general. I guess I was just looking for experiences of others on it. For example, in the last thread I made (about my seizures), someone else mentioned they were on Seroquel, (in fact, so did I–Quentipine=Seroquel) so I figured there might be others.
I made a recent Facebook post about it too and that got the sort of replies I was looking for here. I guess I should have been more clear about it in the OP, though. Apologies.
Yep. And in that OP, I mentioned I was on Quentipine/Seroquel (as I linked to above). This topic is basically a continuation of that. Again, sorry for not going into much detail in the OP.
How much are they giving you? I took 100 mg. Less than that actually did make for some bad times, making me feel funny but not enough to make me sleep.
And did you ask them why they are giving you that for a seizure disorder? Someone in the last thread mentioned that this seemed unusual to them. It’s actually an antipsychotic, although it works as an anti-histamine based sedative at lower doses. And, if my experience is any indication, it doesn’t wear off like Benadryl or other similar drugs do.
I was prescribed Depakote for the seizures since I made that topic…and, since I have been on it, I haven’t had a seizure.
I’m on 100mg of the Seroquel too, although two things: 1. Sometimes I break it up (something you probably shouldn’t do since it’s time released) and also had those bad times where I’d feel funny, and so 2. I haven’t taken it for a few days now.
I was only prescribed it for sleep, since the doc (at the time) thought I wasn’t getting any sleep. This was before the seizure diagnosis. I’m now sleeping much better and only taking two meds: Depakote, for possible seizures, and Valium, for anxiety.
I’m starting to think the seizures were coming from possible congestive heart failure, so I’ve got a lot of heart tests coming up with a cardiologist and a few tests (MRIs, EEGs) with a Neuro guy.
Prepare to gain weight.
IT, Thank you for the context. I had not seen your earlier thread before. I’m glad things seem to be improving for you.
And as someone who has frequent insomnia combined with/caused by hives and itching, it sounds like seroquel would be a wonderful drug for me.
Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.
If it’s for sleep, and you don’t like it, ask for something else? Do you still need help with sleep?
I’ve taken 50 mg/day for nearly 10 years for for insomnia. It is powerful, but I found that after about a week you adjust. Give it some time. Since you’re taking 100 mg, later you might experiment with half doses by busting pills in half.
The “weight gain” thing happens because the stuff gives you (or at least me) badass munchie attacks, teenager-smoking-bong power munchies. I combat that by just pushing my meals forward in the day, so it’s okay to have my dinner just before bed, then I don’t keep high calorie snacks or sweets in the house.
The only other annoying side effects for me are:
It also puts you at an increased risk of developing diabetes. If someone is using it only as a sleep-aid, it seems like there would be better alternatives.
You mean like Ambien. Lunesta, Rozerem, all of which don’t work for me? Benzodiazepines, which are dangerous and highly addictive? Maybe antidepressants? We tried three different ones, which took weeks and didn’t help (actually made things worse).seroquell is the only thing that gives me sleep, so no, there aren’t better alternatives. I wish there were but I went through hell finding this and won’t willingly mess with what’s working.
I wasn’t addressing you specifically. Obviously, if Seroquel is the only drug that works for you, then it’s the appropriate medication. But none of the medications you listed have the diabetes risk of Seroquel. I do agree, however, that benzos are a bad choice for long-term use, as they pose addiction risks.
I haven’t been using the Seroquel lately because franky, it scares me. Whenever I take one, it relaxes my body almost immediately (within ten minutes) and makes me feel almost weightless. Like I have rocks attached to all extremities and then this strong feeling of being sleepy comes over me. I just don’t like something that works that fast and is that strong at putting a person to sleep.
So anyway, I haven’t taken it for about a week now, but I’ve been fine and I’ve both been able to sleep regularly again and don’t have much anxiety any more. Only med I’m taking now regularly is the Depakote (for the possible seizures I was having). I haven’t had any seizure-like attack since I’ve been on it, though.
I’ve taken a few mentioned here. Settled on Trazadone. Anyone else take that?
My experience with it, as a bipolar person, is that it is a godsend. Without Seroquel and Lamictal I would be dead now. With them, I live a totally normal life.
Should have mentioned: I too took Seroquel for bipolar, along with Lithium. Together they were quite effective in that usage.
