Your reference to “puritanical progressive” leads me to believe you’re into neo-reaction, but I think one of us is confused. My understanding of Moldbug’s view is that the progressive movement’s relationship to the Puritans was cladistic in nature, as a historical lineage, but it’s undergone a complete transformation, like a land mammal turning into a whale. The left does have some scolds against fun (banning e-cigs, video games, certain foods and drinks), but in the whole it’s anti-Puritan and rejects the spiritual, wants to tear down traditional institutions, and worships materialism, consumerism, and hedonism.
When I read NRx stuff the focus on this or that sect of Christianity strikes me as odd, since Christianity itself is a great vehicle for left memes, not to mention the various contributions from Jewish intellectuals. Lots of Catholic countries embraced socialism, too.
