I’m certain migrating the site was a crap-ton of work. Thank you for all of your hard work and valiant efforts.
My initial impression of the new site was not good. “Hot garbage” was the phrase which came to mind. I believe this is largely due to the very ugly default interface.
Can we set the Default Interface to be Discourse-classic to spare others the same discomfort? I’ve already changed it for myself; this is me trying to pay it forward.
Maybe we could do a user poll to decide on a new default theme? The current default is one of the worst in my opinion. It does not create a good impression with new dopers I’m sure.
I’ve tried all of them. The Discourse Classic appears to be the one that gets rid of the most white space and makes it easier on the eyes as far as separating the topics. Especially now that the CSS is so damned vanilla.
Is there anyway at all to get rid of the “Latest” column on the right? I really don’t need or want a list of the last 10 or so topics people posted in, particularly if they’re in forums I don’t frequent.
Count me amongst the new immigrants who was struggling with the Great Wall of white space and finding the look and feel of the new place uninviting. I’m a “never look a gift horse in the mouth” kinda guy a so I came over with the approach of making the best of what was on offer, but after a few hours the cordiality was not improving.
But when stumbling onto the option of changing the theme I was stunned about how much difference that made to both the readability and my attitude.
I changed the theme, I added an avatar, I played around with the font.
After trying a couple I have found Discourse Classic fitted my expectations best. I made a couple of posts. I’ve personalised it. It might be a unsophisticated Neanderthal cave on the fringe of an Art Deco wonderland, but it’s mine-ish.
I haven’t worked out the coding and tags yet, the search option remains unfathomed. Navigation is clunky. I’m a curmudgeon on the notion of bells, whistles and animations drowning out the text.
