I’m just commennting on how extraordinary it is that thtere should be so many threads about a poster that I’d never even noticed before. Plus the title was just simplt too temping to pass up. And it would have been cool if I’d got thte recursion right first time. And some people seem to be having fun in this thread. So I say leave it open.

I’ve been around here for nine years and I never noticed the poster Seven before either. Not it seems that he/she is some great martyr hero that all the posters who ran away a few months ago felt the need to come back and defend his/her honor.

Who is Seven anyway? Did he/she have a different username in the past?

1. Hardly a thread, except in the technical sense. A single post to announce the banning, locked to prevent replies. This is standard but IMHO stupid practice.
2. Since it was not possible to post a direct reply to the announcement, any discussion required starting a new thread.
3. Instead of announcing that the banning had been changed to a suspension in the existing thread, a mod locked it and opened a new one. At this point there was exactly one active thread.
4. This thread on a related topic was started at the encouragement of a moderator, making two active threads.
5. This one was started by a poster because… uh, better ask him.
6. L: In case this is about me, I’ll start a thread about me. M: It’s not about you.

So until this thread (7), there were at most two (5, 6) brief redundant threads that were not started by moderators or at moderator urging - hardly the best example of a ridiculous number on the same topic taking over the boards.

It’s possible that some people sincerely disagree with the moderators without regarding Seven as a martyr or a hero. It’s also possible that some people who didn’t particularly care about the issues jumped at the chance to criticize.

Seven is the administrator of Giraffe’s board and a lot of people post at both sites. He hasn’t posted that much at this board in the past few years. I think most of the outcry you’re seeing stems from the fact that people don’t like uncertainty over the rules and don’t want to be on the receiving end of the next capricious banning. No reason to see him as martyr or hero in this case but someone who posted what he thought was a joke thread and then got banned for it with the rules adapted after the fact to make it look like it was something other than a vendetta. He is a good guy and knows how to run a message board smoothly. Anyone thinking he can’t contribute positively to this board has their head planted firmly between their back pockets.
