I moved about 2 yrs ago. I had been very much into cycling at that time, but hadn’t touched the bike since I moved. I’ve misplaced/thrown out the keys to all my bike locks during that time, by mistake. I’m now dusting off the old bike for transportation purposes. Is there a way to regain use of these locks? Do I need to go to a locksmith? Or just chuck them and buy new bike locks?
I’d be interested to know if locksmiths can fashion keys from locks… they usually fashion keys from keys.
If they’re good locks, they’ll have serial numbers, traceable to the key design. if they’re not good locks, you shouldn’t rely on them anyway.
Bike locks are cheap and any locksmith type solution would be expensive in relation. It really does not pay to buy an expensive lock anyway. A lock is only a casual preventative for the quick snatch and grab. I could get past any bike lock made in under a minute by either cutting the lock or the cable.
Perhaps a Bic pen?
Hehehe, or a bump key? Which I won’t be linking to!
