my normal heartrate is about 93 bpm. it goes to about 160-180 during 45 minutes of exercise. however for hours afterwards (5, 6, maybe longer) my resting heart rate is about 110-120 bpm. What is this a sign of? is this a sign of increased metabolism, did i not cool down properly? anyone have any idea.
Subtract your age from 220. That’s your max heart rate. Never go over that. Aerobic exercise at 60-80% of your max heart rate.
As your body becomes conditioned, your baseline heart rate should decrease. Go get an ECG. Don’t excercise anymore until you’ve seen a physician. It may well be benign, but your life is not worth taking that chance.
IANAD but I am a respiratory therapist with a CV background. My WAG with the limited information provided is atrial fib.
First of all, your ‘normal’ resting heart rate is pretty high. Take this again the first thing you wake up in the morning before getting out of bed. If it’s that high, see a doctor.
If 93 is a normal-high resting heart rate for you, then an elevated 110-120 bpm is normal as a result of the ‘aerobic effect’ which includes an elevated heart rate for a few hours after the exercise (although, six hours later seems too long afters and may be related to the elevated resting heart rate).
See here.
Peace.
