I was on my way home this afternoon and there were a large number of law enforcement vehicles on the 5 South in northern Skagit County. I didn’t see what was up, since the northbound lanes were flowing freely and I have a ‘thing’ about being a gawker. Not far up the freeway there was another ‘convention’ of LE vehicles. One of the exits was closed.
In a nutshell: A guy known to police to have mental issues went on a shooting rampage. Seven or eight scenes, eight people shot, six people dead including a Sheriff’s duputy.
I’ve been to the shell station many times, where the motorcyclist was shot and wounded.
Yikes, I just now heard about this. My dad was also in Mount Vernon today; he actually drove right past the courthouse and sheriff’s office only minutes after the guy had showed up and turned himself in. Kinda surprising that this guy had just been released and had no previous history of violence, though the lengthy criminal history combined with the mental illness would certainly be reason enough for concern. I wonder what set him off?
I guess we might find out, since he didn’t go for that “final shootout” with the police and thus actually survived to be taken into custody.
