First, a little history:
My freshman year of college my mom moved up to Door County (WI).
She bought a Sears home (the Crescent).
I spent 3 summers plus about a year living in the house.
I got a job and moved away, but still visted on occasion.
After my mom passed away, one of sisters buys the house and uses it as a cottage. (much to my sibling’s relief – no need to empty out the house).
I still visit, and most of us had Thanksgiving dinner there.
This morning another of my sisters called. Aparently the furnace conked out and some pipes burst. To make it worse, some of the hot water pipes also burst.
The entire fisrt floor is pretty much a loss. Including furniture like my Grandmother’s china cabinet. There is a foot of ice in the basement. The second floor is mostly OK. The insurance, etc folks will take a look monday. Unsure if the whole interior has to be gutted and rebuilt or what.
This hits me hard because not only is my sister’s cottage, but it was MY HOUSE for a while.
