Ms. Ryan’s accusation were made in the midst of a custody battle, and the judge hearing the case awarded custody to Mr. Ryan – which to me suggests that perhaps he did not find Ms. Ryan’s accusations to be credible.
IOW – there’s some strong evidence that perhaps it didn’t happen as she said.
Ryan’s Senate campaign sank because he assured GOP officials there was nothing embarrassing in the sealed court file, not because he wanted his wife to perform for a select group of horny onlookers.
I’ve been to a couple of clubs, including the Power Exchange. I don’t know what it was like in the 70’s and early 80’s–I graduated from high school in '85.
I’m talking about the sort of club that is advertised and open to the public for an admission fee here–not private swinger’s clubs.
The clubs that I have visited have been dark, with thumpy music, black light, and fluorescent paint.
The Power Exchange had some interesting bdsm scenes. It seemed that the people doing them were there every weekend. They had the equipment and outfits.
There was also a roving pack of spectators. They would move around the club looking for people trying to have sex. Once they found a sex scene happening, they would instantly ruin it. They would close in on the participants–blocking out what little light remained, and practically draining the air from the room. So sex scenes there were furtive and short.
OTOH, condoms are everywhere, and their use is required. You can get thrown out for not using them. And security is generally good.
Other clubs were similar, but less populated.

Didn’t mention this part. To get into “my” club, you first met one of the proprietors at a local restaurant and had a brief conversation, mainly so he could see if you both seemed to be into it. They don’t like it when one partner drags the other along.
When you’re accepted, you go to the club where he pushes a button and waves at a camera. The bartender recognizes him and opens the door. When you come by yourself subsequent times, you follow the same procedure.
There are (or were) whole sex resorts in the Carribean. There was on called Hedonism in the 80’s. I was always curious about them too. If it’s not too much of a hijack, has anyone been to one of those?

They’re both pretty good depictions of private swingers clubs and the people who visit them.
