Sex reassignment at birth

Doctors recommend reassignment of sex organs for ambiguous genitals. If you had a micropenis, or a enlarged clitoris you might have got it cut of, to remove ambiguity.

Now needless to say I am against this, but I question is anyone really for this at all? I don’t see many guys who would want to live as a female because their dick is small, or any women who would want to possibly lose sensitivity because theirs is “a bit too big”

Well, I think it’s daft, but I’ve about as much influence on the AMA as I do on the KKK, which is to say, none.

I listened to a segment on UK’s Radio 4 this morning on this very topic (Sue McGregor [sub]bless her[/sub] having to say the word genitalia about 4 times made my day).

She interviewed an ‘intersex’ woman from the US who belonged to an organisation championing the cause of not intervening surgically until the child/teenager/adult was old enough to make his/her own decisions. The other chap was a UK doctor who seemed to be saying that current medical thinking was to assign a gender by the best means possible, but not necessarily force the gender by surgery (again, until later).

What I found stunning was the fact that apparently 1 in 2000 children born are to some degree intersex. A higher incidence than I would have ever thought possible.
