After further thought, I believe the romance I was thinking of was between Madelyne Pryor and Alex Summers (Havok).

Elfquest (shut up), in Journey to Sorrow’s End. Cutter and Leetah have Recognized each other (a kind of mating imperative), but Leetah is having none of it. There’s a gulf of centuries between the two. He’s a barbarian with a wolf. Yadda yadda. All Cutter understands is that The Way It’s Supposed To Be is not happening, and he’s probably going to die of loneliness/longing.

And then, Leetah says his soul name out loud. He’s facing away from her, and he just freezes, wide-eyed, and trembling. Leetah comes up behind him, slides her arms around his chest, and he just melts.

Helllll yes. That frame that ONE FRAME where he leans back against her and she has her hands on his chest… hellll yes.

Also Enigma. The scene where Michael is kneeling and Enigma caresses his cheek and chin and Michael remembers the first time he stood naked in front of a strange girl. “Because that’s what he feels like now. A strange girl.”
