Shadowrun campaign, comments and OOC discussion!

Thanks for the update. Was starting to worry ^^

Oh, I’ll be going out of town for Origins gaming con on Wednesday, so I probably won’t be around too much for the next few days. I’ll try to check in, but I can’t guarantee anything. If I end up being a hold up for anything, I trust that Mosier can NPC Goethe to keep the game going until I come back. I figure Goethe’s been established as a character pretty well at this point that his actions in a given situation should be easy to determine.

For the cyborg: is he just armored up the wazoo so there’s an element of metagaming involved since he doesn’t have to be all that careful, or is it all RP’ing?

He’s being roleplayed. The nature of the character itself you’ll have to divine from the posts themselves. I think Mosier can confirm everything he’s done has been appropriately in-character.

It was a rough night at work. I’ll be getting some sleep and then updating the game in hopefully no less than 8 hours. See you all there!

I’m back. Had a lot of fun at the con.

Great! Got any cool stories?

Nothing spectacular, but Liz and I did do a Venture Brothers LARP.

She was the Monarch and I went as Dr. Girlfriend. We’ve LARPed with the group that was running this many times, so they got a real kick out of it.

Yes, I wore the Jackie Kennedy style outfit, complete with miniskirt, wig, and pillbox hat. I wore bike shorts underneath the skirt.

And I shaved my legs for the first time in my life. I don’t plan on doing that again anytime soon, though.

Tragedy has befallen the group. Mahaloth’s character Seneth has been killed in action while battling a worthy foe. Indeed, Jackal was the strongest of your adversaries to date. Statistically, it was inevitable a player’s character would die eventually, but that doesn’t make the bitter pill any easier to swallow. The Shadows 'aint for kids, chum.

Fortunately, Mahaloth himself is still quite eager to continue playing in the Shadows. As you all might have guessed, this particular run is coming to a close, and I expect it will wrap up this weekend. Mahaloth will be playing a new character when episode 3 begins. I hope to see you all there! For now, I’m particularly excited to see how Goethe reacts to Nail’s accusation.

Rest in peace, Seneth. May your spirit be welcomed into Raven’s dark conspiracy.

Chapter 2 of the SDMB Shadowrun campaign has drawn to a close. There will be a break for a few days while Mahaloth’s new character is created, and possibly individualized epilogues if any player wants to tell some more of their character’s story in between runs. Feel free to continue posting in the chapter 2 thread for now. I’m shooting for a date of Monday, 7/30/2012 for chapter 3, assuming everyone wants to continue with the campaign. If you have any questions or want to make any observations about the game, shoot me a PM or post it here.

Thanks to all of you for giving me a truly epic RPG experience. I hope everyone else is having as much fun with this as I am, and I hope to see you again soon in the New World.

Also, forgot to mention that each of you should expect a personalized PM describing your character’s feats and karma rewards soon.

For the next run, I’m thinking of completely ditching the idea of a GM moderated agenda for Karma rewards. The idea I’d like to move to is that each of you will send me a list of your character’s goals. Hopefully each of you can come up with goals that have varying degrees of difficulty to accomplish, and I can start awarding Karma based on how true your characters stayed to accomplishing their goals. What do you guys think?

So Nail’s a bit pissed at Goethe, for understandable reasons, but Goethe does have a relatively important question to ask Nail at some point. However, Goethe will give Nail plenty of distance until Nail seems like he’d actually be willing to listen to what Goethe has to say.

So let me know Autolycus when it’s safe for Goethe to ask Nail.

If only Goethe weren’t so reckless…

Been busy the past few days. Hope to update today.

Nail is very cool towards you for at least a few days. In that time period, Nail might listen to what you have to say, but he’s as equally likely to rebuff you. After that though, especially if you keep pestering him, he’s likely to listen to what you have to say, if only to shut you up.

I just wanted to pop in and let you guys know that I’ve been following the Shadowrun threads for a while now. I let em build up so I can avoid the suspense, and Mosier, you’ve run an absolutely fantastic campaign. It’s great fun even though I’m not even playing and your writing has elevated the Shadowrun campaign well above most of the other SDMB play by posts(which I went looking for after discovering this, so bias may be involved  )
Of course a lot of the goodness has to do with how well the players run their characters, and everyone’s been really good.

Hoopy - your posts tend to enumerate(at great length) every possible emotion, motive, decision path and end result. Is that because your character is supposed to be like that or because you just enjoy it?
Mahaloth I noticed that you often forget a lot of stuff that’s going on in the campaign. I thought it was because you were playing an oddball character who wasn’t right in the head, but when I went back and read the other SDMB campaigns, you do it there too! I suppose you’re an absent minded type? Or just have a normal busy life?

I want to stress that on the whole I’ve really enjoyed what you guys have done here.

Thanks for the kind words!

I was hoping we’d have at least one spectator for the campaign. I’m glad we’re making a good impression.

I did? When? And thanks for the insult. I’ve never considered myself absent minded or too busy.

Thanks for the compliments.

As far as my attention to detail, it’s probably equal parts column A and column B.

I’m an engineer by trade (software) so I have an inherent tendency for analyzing things from every possible angle. In a P-b-P campaign, I tend to play characters that also follow that trait, mainly because the slower pace of them means I’m going to be doing that anyway. Each character I’ve played in P-b-P has always been unique in personality and complement of skills, but I don’t think I’ve ever played anyone impulsive, mainly because it doesn’t come natural to me in a P-b-P campaign.

The odd thing is, in LARPing, I have played impulsive characters many times. Mainly because LARPs are a faster pace, which usually means you don’t have time to dissect a situation from every possible angle.

But thanks for noticing and thanks for reading.

Our newest player, SCSimmons, will have a new character for you to meet in the next update.

Soon afterward, Mahaloth’s new character will be introduced.

I know some of you are still waiting for rewards from the last run. I’m working on it! I know it’s late, but you’ll get your karma before the weekend is over, and before you must make any attribute or skill tests. Thanks for your patience!
