He was clearly champing at the bit to come up with an excuse to do it, and despite pleas from semi-lurkers that it was an interesting and edifying discussion, he came up with a lame one and did so.
Makes me not want to post on GD any more. Very disappointed to see squelching of a topic like that, basically just because it is a “hot” one fraught with controversy (even if he won’t admit that’s the reason).
I disagreed with SlackerInc in the thread but I agree here that it was pretty lousy to close it.
If the standard for closing a debate thread is “going back and forth and truly not getting anywhere” or “posters [on both sides] claiming little is going to be accomplished,” then probably most debate threads should be closed.
It looks to me like there is some other reason why the thread was closed.
My guess is it has something to with the fact that the majority of the last 50 or so posts were on the non-Leftist side of the debate and coming from a number of different posters. Of course in theory, pure numbers of posts or posters shouldn’t matter – what matters is the strength of peoples’ arguments. But for some people, I suspect that subconsciously it matters very much.
It seems one side never is going to get tired of posting “but there’s no such thing as race” over and over, no matter how often it is explained to them, and that gets repetitious.
Indeed. We have only begun to scratch the surface of the myriad ways that blacks are inferior to whites. Next up: Why are blacks genetically predisposed to playing music so loud?
You see millions of years ago on the serengeti people didn’t live very close together so when they wanted to have a party the house band, usually consisting of electric banjos and spoons, would have to play really loud so all could hear and join in the festivities.
Are there any liberals who don’t agree with Der Trihs? If they don’t agree, is it their bounden duty to ensure their disagreement is in every thread he spews into? Just curious how this all is supposed to work.
I’m sure they don’t. But I’m equally sure that when you frequently go off the rails that not all liberals who are even in the thread make their disagreement known, let alone those who didn’t even participate. Which was sort of the point I was getting at with the asinine ‘I’m curious - are there any conservatives on this board that don’t agree with brazil?’. Hell, I didn’t even know Brazil was considered a conservative, and I’m only vaguely aware of him (her?) as a poster.
Agreed. No idea if the thread in question should have been closed or not. Seemed a racist rant to me when I skimmed it in GD originally, and I was wondering why it was allowed to remain open even as long as it did. Certainly there is knowledge to be gained by engaging racists (as well as CTers and the like), but there didn’t seem much of value there to me. MMV however I guess.
