Her album “Laundry Service” from 2001 is quite good; “Oral Fixation” from 2005 is also good. Her latest album, “She Wolf,” is not nearly as good. I don’t know any of her Spanish language albums; maybe I’ll look into them someday.
Yeah, I’m a straight woman but I’d make an exception for her. Music wise I’m waiting for the Greatest Hits, though, as I think most albums have a few killer tracks and then quite a few fillers. Don’t know the Spanish albums, though.
Additionally, her moves in the She Wolf video are… unique. While much of it is extremely provocative, some of it is grotesque, and her tripping around on the roof in the white dress is awful. She moves like a four-year-old who’s just come back from ballet class. Why on earth was she choreographed like that?
As a rule, if it is an artist who started singing in Spanish, and is widely known in Latin America, the Spanish albums and versions of the English tracks are many times much better than the English CDs. This applies to Shakira, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony (although I think he started in English), and I think a couple of others.
The first three albums of Shakira are my favorites, including Pies Descalzos, which was the first. Or at least the first one with international broadcast.
Of the later albums, I realize I like the Spanish versions of the songs that much better. Loba, the Spanish counterpart to She Wolf, is an awesome catchy song (ignore the video)… It just doesn’t work the same in She Wolf.
There may be an older Greatest Hits album, but it is in Spanish.
Really? I like the bit on the roof, I think it is quite natural and charming. Then again, I suppose after all those contortions, anything would look natural.
