Shakma - the best movie trailer of all time

Red Letter Media just watched the movie Shakma as part of their Best of the Worst, because they loved the trailer so much. So I decided to track down the trailer myself.

Boy am I glad I did. The movie was reportedly pure crap, but man, that trailer was fantastic. There’s just too much greatness to single out a single scene as my favorite.

Enjoy!

I watched their best of the worst as well and agree, this trailer was great.

OK, I’ll go watch…

Yep, that seems about right.

God, I remember watching this on HBO years ago. Actually, I should say TRIED to watch. Even my undiscerning teen self couldn’t get through it it was so bad.

Indie video distributor Code Red is apparently working on a Bluray release for this.

I particularly enjoyed the continuity gaffe when the guy walks out into the hall with a knife in his hand, which then magically inserts itself into his belt when the orang attacks him.

I offer you: Riki-Oh The Story of Ricky featuring the head-exploding scene that used to be used in The Daily Show’s Five Questions.

I’m pretty sure that was a baboon. One really, really pissed-off baboon!

I knew that, but pre-coffee I’m just glad I didn’t say “dog”.

FWIW, the trailer is bad. It’s not tongue in cheek bad, it totally fails at making the movie seem exciting or even competent. Based on two minutes of footage with voiceover, I feel sure that the film is a “no-budget” production created by people without professional-level skills.

Anyway, that’s also what’s good (not great) about the trailer: its incompetence. An inability to conceal bad writing, bad directing, bad photography, ill-chosen cast and no money spent (apart from a monkey handler.)

That narrator is hilarious.

Ooof. I’ve never been a fan of “so-bad-it’s-good” film. That just looks terrible.

That said, I’d watch it just for Ari Meyers. I had such a crush on her as a kid!
