Shameless gofundme plug

I have the mods permission to post this.

It will also explain why I’ve had ebikes on the mind so much, because cars have been causing me grief like I could go on about for days, but I won’t. I really seriously am thinking of staying away, though.

At any rate:

I’ve struggled financially since the pandemic, as I burned through a lot of savings, then, about 5 weeks ago, I really got punched in the face (metaphorically) by a car accident—PM me if you want the details. Now, I’m in a 3-way fight with the shop and my insurance company, and absorbing a lot of the costs. I may be reimbursed, but it’ll be probably in July or so, because it may take that long to finish the car.

In the meantime, I have to get to work, my rental car has timed out, so I’m paying in full, and the shop needs a down payment to start work.

I have a lawyer helping me, who is a friend, but I’m still paying expenses.

I’ve set up a GoFundMe; I don’t need a lot—just a few dollars from several of you would go a long way, and I’m grateful for anything.

Donated. I hope things look up for you.

I’m in.

Wishing you all the best.

Looks like we’re making decent progress towards her goal given that most of the time the plea has been up was overnight in the US.

Go Rivkah! Go friends!

p.s. I’m in.

Happily donated. Good luck!

Who is Johnny?

I’m in

So happy you got the gofundme posted.

(I’m thinking Johnny is the dog?)

Johnny is my son.

I’m glad that I was able to help a bit. Sending positive energy your way.

Oh, I should have guessed he is the boychik in your posts!

A huge, huge thank you to everyone who has donated!

I’ll post an update later today. (It’s 5:30 right now, and I’m getting ready for work.)

Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner. Donated. All the best to you and yours! Hope things work out well.

Thanks!

And I will post an update, just got waylaid by a stomach virus.

Don’t need to do anything on my account. Take care of yourself. Sorry there is a new thing causing trouble. Get well soon!

Huge thanks for all the help!

I was pretty down about everything a couple days ago, but now I’m feeling a lot more hopeful. That’s all you.

The car is getting worked on. I found a different shop that was willing to start even though the insurance company is being a butt about sending me the money for it, and will not insist on OEM parts, nor on making all the paint match.

Apparently the #1 thing people ask body shop is about paint matching. Who knew? that’s why the original estimate included several thousand dollars just for painting after the body work was done on my white car that I don’t even especially like being white, but it was what was on the lot when I bought it.

I told him to paint the replacement panels red and blue, and I’d tell people I was very patriotic, and if anyone asked about the body shop where I’d had work done, I’d say they listened to customers, and respected their individual needs. Also, that they got back to you quickly, which is true-- I pick them because they were the most responsive of different places I called.

I had to turn in my rental, so I am Ubering to work today. I was off yesterday, because I had some kind of stomach thing, albeit, given that I work with basically, cute little disease vectors, is just a hazard of the job.

The bike is due any day, and maybe I can ride it until the car is done, if it doesn’t rain.

I got a really good deal on one, as people seemed to be trying to move them before tariffs went into effect, and my brother lent me some money.

I can’t tell you how much all your help means.

My insurance company dragged this out over paperwork so long, that I’m now renting on my dime, which I think I mentioned before. I want not to do that, but I have things coming from all directions, and Indianapolis has poor public transport.

And of course, the dilemma everyone has about getting repairs to personal transportation-- you need it to get to work, so you can make the money you need to pay for the repairs.

(and, while, not making a specific request that anyone repost, just saying I got no problem with reposting the gofundme link, using my name, etc.)

You guys are fantastic.

PS: anyone who wants to ask me specific questions, feel free either here, or in a PM. I will answer-- posting this makes me feel like I owe you, at the very least, honest information.

Hi, Rivkah. Glad to hear things are a little better. I wanted to donate when I first saw your post, but Microsoft updated my PC and screwed everything up (@@Q@!!!). Then, I forgot. Just found it again, so I added a bit more to the pot.

Good luck Rivkah - I chipped in a bit and hope things are looking up for you now.

Well, things are not exactly looking up, not yet, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel, and I’m treading water, to mix my metaphors. Which is thanks to your help-- I would have been pulled under by now otherwise, really.

My rental car had to go back because it had some kind of problem, and they did not have another car to give me. By the time they did, the refund of my deposit was in the ether of the “10 business days return,” so I couldn’t get another car-- a different one under a new rental contract, I mean, because I couldn’t come up with the deposit again.

So I have been taking Ubers to work. It takes about half of what I earn in a day to pay for the Uber, but that’s OK-- I get to keep my job, and don’t look bad. I have really good attendance at work, and a few people don’t, and the rumors about their positions being in jeopardy fly around.

The rent is due soon, and I’m in a bind, because it is due on the 5th, and I wasn’t able to save for it with so many extra expenses, and my next paycheck doesn’t come until then 6th, so it looks like I’m paying a late fee.

The car won’t be done for a while because parts are hard to get, which is why the mechanic wanted a down payment to start work. I did pull that together, with your guys’ help, so thanks for that.

I did get the electric bike. I got so many Amazon gift cards between Chanukah and the end of the year in both the preschool, and the religious school (and had some from last year still sitting there), that it added up to an ebike. Working now on learning to ride it well enough to ride it to work, and to be in shape to do so-- albeit, riding it doesn’t leave me winded like riding an ordinary bike. And I can get up to 21mph pretty easily.

I think the bike is going to help. Maybe I won’t need another car before mine is done. I can have groceries delivered.

I don’t mean to be such a downer-- this whole situaion has been like the pandemic-- it’s going to be a tough week-- no, two weeks-- or maybe three, or a month-- well looks like six weeks. Nope, more like three months. Oh hell, we don’t know how long, but it’s going to take some serious time.

But you guys helped-- you helped so much. I kept my job by hanging on to the rental car, and then being able to afford Ubers for a week, and I was able to get the repairs going because you guys helped me get the down payment together.

And, you know, as expensive as those Ubers were, the drivers were a trip in themselves. I might get are article or short story out of them.

Donated, and hoping that things get better for you soon!

Oh, wow!

Thank, you, and thanks again to all of you so very much.
