My youngest brother is quite the eclectic artist. For the last few years he’s delved into the world of stop-motion animation. He produced/directed a video for the band TRAPT last year, and his most recent project has now been kicked to the internet.
It’s a promotion for CBS’ Ghost Whisperer and may be viewed here:
That was pretty darn cool. So does he do all the sculpting and photography by himself or does it require a team to pull something like that off? Did he pitch the idea to CBS or do you put your work out there for all to see and the first across with an acceptable bid wins?
lieu, he does everything himself. Design, modeling, lighting, photography, editing, revisions, etc. He wishes he had a team, but he probably wouldn’t be able to fit them in his bedroom at my Mom’s house… he does everything there… on the floor… beside his bed. He has more gadgets and computers and editing suites than you can shake a stick at, though.
CBS actually approached him about doing this piece for them. There was some back and forth as to the approach but the vast majority of his “vision” was accepted, as I understand. CBS is apparently trying to make the show more appealing to a younger, hipper demographic.
I understand that he negotiated his own terms with CBS prior to beginning the project.
Very cool - good music behind it, too. Have to agree with the others that it was cool, interesting art in service to a less-than-art TV show, but hey - all exposure is great exposure, so rock on, little bro!
Wow, Scott, that was great. Simple blob-o-clay that morphed perfectly in synch with the music; reminded me of a gymnastics routine, oddly, because of the simplicity and synch. Scorpions and cobras, some of my faves! I know it’s a lot of minute work, kudos to him.
Went to Bro’s website, and I hafta say: what two different peas y’all are from your sibling pod, at least on the surface. I know you have had a military carreer, retiring pretty young after long service, and Bro is looking pretty, yeah, eclectic on his homepage photo. Do tell!
Dude, I LOVE claymation (am I allowed to use that specific word?) and that freakin’ rocked!! Good on your bro! And here’s to many more of the same type (and beyond) victories in the future. Awesome!!!
Edited to add: Just looking at his website, he’s pretty hot too. I simply had to add that.
And, the animation was very, very good. I particularly thought the part with the lady and the snake – snake striking/lady & snake clasp & roll backwards/morph/morph etc.-- was real cool. Eloquent.
And yes, elelle, he’s quite different from me. As a project for college in which he was to create a 3-D sculpture, he made a merry-go-round. Instead of proud steeds though, the ride was populated with hanging corpses, zombies, and other types of grotesque ghoulies. I and my other siblings call it “the merry-go-round of death” to tease him. Unfortunately, he seems to be even more proud of the project when we call it that.
This is the “little kid” I remember taking out for Micky-D’s Happy Meals when I was home on leave. So, yes, we’re two different peas from the same pod, elelle. But if it’s all the same, I’d not change how either of us turned out.
