Just remember that if Trump screws up the US economy (as across the board tariffs are likely to do) Canada’s will also suffer. Think of that before you try to move here.
As for the OP, my wife and I have also hugged each other a lot. For santy’s sake.
I rode my horse in the forest. I stayed away from news media. I relabeled some fountain pen inks. I put away the laundry. I I believe I will mend a hole in a sweater next.
Same here (for being kind to my wife and avoiding news sites).
My wife fosters cats for a local animal shelter, and she has two kittens right now at peak cuteness. We’ll probably hang in the kitten room for a good long while tonight. It’s hard to watch kittens frolicking and stay depressed about anything. Worked well when I was laid off from a job years ago.
I have sent email notes to friends and colleagues reminding us all to breath, grieve, and support each other.
I have contacted a colleague about holding an “Unauguration” event with short talks and songs to boost spirits and plan actions we can take to push back
I have gone for my daily walk, ironed clothes, made up the spare room for our niece who is fighting with her parents and will be staying with us for a few days while tempers cool.
I worked with a high school teacher who has to do a unit on Karl Marx and she was really excited by the prospect.
I congratulated a former student on his book, which was just listed as forthcoming by a university press.
I checked the front door repeated to best my partner to the mail because her present is supposed to arrive today and it’s a secret.
Now I need a nap. For about a week.
Girlfriend is coming over for dinner. We will attempt to recreate a wonderful dish we had while vacationing on the Oregon coast, drink margaritas, go for a walk, possibly take an initial superficial look into moving to panama, or perhaps we’ll watch a movie and save panama for another day, then go to bed and snuggle all night.
We played untitled goose game. I honked a lot and went chasing after the humans and stealing stuff from them. We solved some of the puzzles, but also just spent time being obnoxious geese.
I’m Pismo Beach for the week, where I can just enjoy the coast and be away from the news cycle for awhile. Took a guided hike up to the Port San Luis Lighthouse this morning and soaked in the beautiful weather and fantastic view overlooking San Luis Obispo bay.
Just saw this thread and will tell you what we did today:
Got the car fixed - the window slider mechanism needed replacing; we went to a new mechanic who did a fast repair and as luck would have it, they are across the street from our favorite diner so we had a late hot breakfast while the repair was being completed. She had pancakes and scrambled eggs, I had an omelette that would knock your socks off and incredible home fries. Breakfast done, we chilled at the repair joint for about an hour until the car was finished. The receptionist lady kept asking my wife if I was asleep and she replied “probably”. I wasn’t but not for lack of trying.
There was no noticeable political talk that I could hear; everyone was listening to the baby behind us singing at the top of her voice until her scrambled eggs arrived and she crammed double fistfuls into her mouth.
Thank you, little person, for a pleasant diversion on a gloomy kind of day. Hope you enjoyed your eggs (she did).
I too had a leisurely breakfast out. And later a leisurely lunch the same way. The whole town seemed kinda quiet, like it does when a storm is coming. Didn’t see, hear, or say a darn thing about politics beyond a headline or two on emails I didn’t read.
I packed up a huge amount of stuff I’m donating. Moved a few pieces of furniture around (including a Korean chest that I had to wrestle upstairs) and now we’re more ready for my brother’s visit starting this coming Sunday. No special comfort food today because my birthday’s on the 9th, and when my brother gets here he’ll want to got out a lot.
[He lives in Costa Rica, so he always pigs out on his favorites that he can’t get down there.]
Noodled on my acoustic bass guitar at various times throughout the day
On the way to pick up some take-out, the local FM station played a kick ass Metallica song, and on the way back a kick ass Motorhead song, both of which I had cranked and I was banging my head, having the time of my life.
I did some work for a group I volunteer for today. I’m working on a special project for their 100th anniversary next year and it’s been coming along nicely. It should be finished in about 10 days, right on schedule.
I’ve started my holiday shopping and purchased some items from an artist whose studio was destroyed in the floods in western NC. Glad to be able to provide a little help to someone who is struggling and working out of a friend’s basement right now.
That’s what I’m doing. I started with Airport! and then continued my binge-watch of the entire Newhart series, which is nice because I associate the series with simpler, more innocent times. Young Frankestein is another good choice. A somewhat more obscure one that should have a higher IMDb rating than it does is Dracula: Dead and Loving It with Leslie Nielsen and directed by Mel Brooks.
Had dinner with Girlfriend, nachos and margaritas. Did you all know that today(6 Nov) is Dia De Los Nachos Nacional?
Went for an hour long walk after dinner, then more margaritas and a dumb movie(Power Rangers, no thinking allowed this evening)
Now to bed and all night snuggles before facing the reality of the morning.
When I lived in SLO County, I knew the couple who lived on the property and looked after the Port San Luis Lighthouse before it was rehabbed and opened to the public. It was a wreck of a place but with good bones, a perfect haunted house. For Halloween one year, the couple threw an overnight party. We built a massive bonfire on the private beach, made Cioppino and danced till we could dance no more. After, we sat in one of the larger rooms and played with a ouiji board. Then we were assigned separate rooms to spend the night. Spooky! As a prank in the middle of the night, the lighthouse keeper fired up his chainsaw, hitting every room to try to scare us.
In short, we had a blast. Thanks for reminding me of a fabulous, memorable occasion.
The positive things I did today were to accomplish a few essential errands and play with my dog, who always makes me laugh. Talked to a few friends to vent and buck ourselves up. Including a friend who still lives in San Luis Obispo.
I have a bunch of little jobs that I want to get done. the one on the menu right now is cleaning the ceiling around all my ceiling AC vents and touching up the paint where needed and retouching the paint on the ceiling where it got marked from all the wall re-painting.
I’m going to take some soup that I made to my mom. I haven’t seen her in a week so I’ll sit with her and catch up. I’m sure she’ll regale me with play by play stories of her beloved Wild hockey team.
