Therefore, I spoke to the manager at window #2 to say that he needed to take a stroll to window #1 to reminder the employee of the standard. I realize this may count as “Karen Goes to McDonalds.”

Speaking of disgusting, two NYPD patrol officers refused to wear masks in the subway. A rider asked them to put on their masks and reminded them it’s the law. They pretended to ignore him. Then they got fed up and shoved him out the exit. The mayor, NYPD chief, and others condemned the cops in the video, but stopped short of saying there would be any repercussions.

CNN is reporting on a woman who died of covid three weeks after giving birth. She was unvaccinated. The husband blames mis-information. It HAS to be somebody else’s fault. I wonder what their OBGYN told them.
I was thinking of this guy as I was reading other stuff in the Dope this morning. I personally think that he should be banned from ever playing in the NHL again.
My wife and I were lined up at a restaurant in Kingston, Ontario a couple of nights ago and in front of us were three tourists - from the US judging by accents - and were sufficiently confused and/or unprepared for masking requirements that they wasted a shitload of everyone’s time. One of the group had a reusable mask on but the ear-loops were so loose that the mask was basically floating a half-inch forward of her face and her companions didn’t have masks with them at all so she dashed off somewhere to get some.
FFS, it’s not that difficult.
I don’t know if it was the same guy, but I saw one quote like, “If only we’d had this information sooner!”, as if we haven’t been trying to tell these idiots everything they needed to know for over a year now.
Willful ignorance is the worst.
And I still keep seeing columns and editorials saying that we need to be understanding and we shouldn’t be intolerant of these people - it’s infuriating.
The “I’m literally in a hospital bed dying of covid, can you give me the vaccine now?” contingent really has me wondering how they absorb information.
I have zero sympathy for vax-deniers, but for pregnant women, I am definitely willing to cut them some slack. I don’t know the exact situation in the US, but in Germany, there was no unequivocal recommendation by the relevant authority for pregnant women to get vaccinated until September 17th. Yes, really.
Even though it has been known for a very long time that pregnancy is a really big risk factor for having a severe case, they were very cautious to recommend vaccination to every pregnant woman, as opposed to high-exposure workers, such as ER nurses and such.
So, depending on the public health policy in the US, this couple might not have been as far behind the curve as you make them out to be. (On the other hand, the husband claiming misinformation is also kind of baffling.)
Today’s don’t-let-the-door-hit-you-in-the-ass-on-your-way-out award goes to a Colorado pharmacist who announced over the intercom at Safeway that she was quitting her job, because she refused to give “poison” Covid shots to people. This was her spiel according to “America’s Frontline Doctors”* (where of course she’s a hero):
“This is Nichole Belland, pharmacy manager for Safeway store at 1892 of Cortez,” she said. “I quit effective immediately because I will not give this poison to people. Wake up, everybody. This is poison. This is hurting people. I’ve seen it. I’ve seen customers die. Wake up, do not take it.”

What was the name of that website that was collecting news stories about anti-vaxxers who died of COVID-19? The format was pictures plus text, and when you clicked on the picture you went to the full story.
What always amazes me about these people is their ability to just lie if it is convenient to do so. “I’ve seen customers die” is really more like “I’ve heard bad things on Facebook, but don’t feel like that is convincing enough without amping up the drama”.
Yeah, it was pretty low-hanging fruit.
