If you feel you’d like to share, I’m talking about things that are your secret little bits of pure, immeasurable happy. Things that are free (or cheap) to do, are transparent (or not) and bring you pure bliss, just in the doing. I’m not talking about things, necessarily, but that’s not out of the scope…
I’ll begin;
Afternoon naps. After I get up on my odd day off, and do whatever is necessary around the house, and the time gets to be about 130 or 2, I like to sneak off to the comfort of the cool, dark cave that is the bedroom, JockeyMutt and I sack out for about an hour. I get the best sleep of my day in that hour.
I don’t get to dream very often these days, so when I do it is bliss to have one and remember it afterwards. Especially if I get to stay in bed for a while.
And especially if I get to nod off and re-enter the dream.
If only I could master (or even novice!) the art of lucid dreaming.
This may sound a little odd, but… Rice Krispes Treats. They’re very therapeutic; just tear into ‘em like a big ol’ carnivore. If carnivores ate Rice Krispes, at least.
The entire autumn season does it for me. The oppressive heat of the summer is over and I can look forward to the cool, crisp mornings and the mild afternoons. I like to hear fallen leaves crunching at my feet as I take a stroll outside and admire the pretty colors of the trees. Looking at the trees against a soft gray sky makes it even more pleasing. On winter days I like to go out when a gentle snow is falling. Everything is so quiet and peaceful, and the snow is so pretty, especially when it’s around Christmas and people have lights in their yards and on their houses. Once I return home I like to enter a warm, cozy house and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. Moments like this reassure me that the world (at least my part of it) is still a good place to be.
At any time of year, but mostly in the autumn and winter: waking up on a rainy (or snowy) morning on a weekend and look out the window, knowing I can lie in bed awhile still and not have to go to work.
I buy the Sunday paper and go to the park. There’s a big swing seat, like a porch swing, way over in quiet corner and right next to the lake. I sit there softly swinging, reading my paper, and watching out for the big water birds that swoop down to land in their favorite fishing spot. I might hear the echo of a horse shoe striking a steel post if someone hits a ringer. I hear the children’s muffled laughter as they play in the playground across the lake. And of course, I talk to the little grey squirrels that stop by to beg for a treat. Ahh … life is good.
I’m with ya on this. My wife brings my son to the office when she comes to get me for lunch and he comes running down the hall yelling, “Daddy, Daddy!” and it gives me one of the best feelings I can think of.
I’ve been waiting to hear about a job this week, and so have used the stressful situation as an excuse to indulge in a nightly ritual of take-out food and Chardonnay in bed, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD.
It doesn’t get much better.
Oooh, yes it does! Maybe tonight (in honor of the first really “Fallish” day around here) I’ll go out and get myself some new pajamas first!
Staying up late on a Friday night! I usually get up at 5:30 a.m. on Saturdays, so when I don’t have to, I’m as happy as a little kid, 'cause I get to stay up late, drink if I want to and watch movies all night!! Just thinking about it puts a huge smile on my face, because I get to STAY UP LATE TWO FRIDAYS IN A ROW this week!
