I am absolutely LOVING this thread! I am old and I think my ears just do not hear any music made after 2015, so I’ve missed this retro stuff. Since I do not know anything new, I will offer the original Jungle Fever by Chakachas. They do not count as part of the OP’s request. Please don’t hurt me.
And now for something completely different. I make EDM mixes for some of my younger friends, as I have the equipment and studio for it, as well as old-school crate diving skills that I’ve been able to transfer to the digital realm. I’ve been trying since this thread started to remember the name of this obscure little funky thing that has always hit me and is on several of my mixes, and I finally dug it up. Not even sure everyone would consider it funk, but I’m down. It’s 8 years old and only has about 6,000 plays, but I like it.
While listening to Lightenup, I did get constant flashbacks to Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” for some reason. Perhaps Nile Rodgers was hanging out next door while they were recording.
Oh, there must be some terrible mistake here and I’m probably at fault in the way I worded something. Do not confuse me in any way for a musician.
I make mixes of other peoples songs (as I used to be a club DJ), and my studio has the necessary equipment for me to do that. I also have some tools for making electronic music, but I still suck at it. My crate diving skills enable me to find little gems like that song, which was created by someone named James Harris in Ontario, who goes by the name Hemingway. It’s a song which basically no one has heard, other than the people who listen to my mixes and a handful of people on SoundCloud.
Ah, got it. Well, it’s good stuff. There’s like infinity great music out there that basically no one will ever hear.
To everyone else – thanks so much!! I’m going to create a Spotify playlist from what I can from all of those songs and just shuffle them for the next week or so.
