30th anniversary of my extended family (~40 of us this year) going to the same town and staying in the same house for two weeks. Highlight of my year. And I’m going starting this Saturday. Which should be now, dammit!
Vacation? Wife is taking classes, kids have camps, kindergarten prep (“ABC’s and Me” it’s called) plus summers are busy at work. My vacation time consists mostly of taking Sunday mornings to do bike rides.
My big vacation was a day-trip this past Tuesday to the Great Allegheny Passage trail with a friend. We rode from Meyersdale, PA to Cumberland, MD and back (after one mile on the C&O canal trail).
I’m trying to plan a trip back in August or September.
We’re retired, so it’s all a vacation, but we plan on spending a week up in Bellingham with the niece, and then a fall two-weeker in the RV down the Oregon coast, up through Crater Lake and along the scenic byways back to Portland.
My buddy and I leave for our annual Baseball Trip in 3 weeks. This year we’ll see ball games in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Fargo, Winnipeg, Sioux Falls, Omaha, Lincoln, and Davenport. If those destinations don’t sound exciting to you, they’re exactly the kinds of places where we usually find a few local dives, hang with the townies and have a great time.
Been doing these trips since 1989, which is before I met my wife, so it’s grandfathered in. She hates long driving trips anyway. (She and I went to Cabo earlier this year and are spending a few days at Disney in September, so it’s not like we never go anywhere together.;))
