Sharon Osbourne

Does anyone think that she has the least bit of talent?

And, she chose to cover “Papa Don’t Preach”?

Can you imagine that conversation with her father?

Sharon: Father, I am pregnant, and I want to keep the baby!
Ozzy: Keep the fucking baby, what do I care?

And, the video is just plain embarrassing

She’s in a position to do a spectacular makeover. Ozzy Osbourne was extremely good looking when he was young and there’s a good chance that she has a lot of potential hidden under the fat and her current style.

Okay, first of all, Sharon is Ozzy’s wife. The girl doing the Madonna cover is Kelly, who is Ozzy’s youngest daughter.
Secondly, I think in spite of all the profanity Ozzy loves and cares for his family immensely, and I think he would be extremely concerned in such a case.

I saw the video, and I found it odd. But I think Kelly Osbourne is one cool ass character - I would love to hang out with her for a few hours. The song is a weird choice (if she had her mind set on Madonna, “Like a Prayer,” “Material Girl,” or “Express Yourself” would have been far more fun), but more power to her.

I certainly don’t have a problem with her weight or with the way she dresses. It’s nice to see some freakin’ originality; I love her style.

Speaking objectively as a gay man, I think she’s rather pretty. She’s not FAT. She’s a damn sight closer to the average American woman’s body proportions than such glorified coatracks as Callista Flockhart and Lara Flynn Boyle.

And her voice isn’t that bad. It’s not quite right for a Madonna cover, but there’s potential. It’s got a fair amount of depth behind it and there’s a nice Bernadette-Peters-esque nasal quality to it (as opposed to a not-so-nice Nanny-Fine-esque nasal quality).

It sounded like it was done in an unacoustic garage, but Kelly does sound like she means it, which what counts. Sure is nice to have a grrrrl getting props, and not for being Barbie-like.

The funny thing about all the profanity from the kids is that on an old episode of “MTV Cribs”, Kelly expressed dismay about her father’s swearing. When asked about inviting her friends over to meet her dad, she replied (paraphrased), “I wish he wouldn’t swear when my friends come over.” To which Ozzy replied, “Well, what the fuck am I going to say?”

Now THAT’s funny.

i haven’t seen the video yet, but i rathermuch want to. i’m fond of madonna covers in general (there’s a rather charming double set produced by cleopatra records featuring a wide and eclectic assortment of bands…from techno-ish to gospel-ish to kmfdm & ogre from skinny puppy). atom & his package does a charming cover of “open your heart” and the rondelles perform a really charming version of “like a prayer”. i’d really like to see/hear how kelly osbourne tackles madonna.

(and i’m also of the opinion that kelly is terribly fabulous. she’s spunky. she’s opinionated but not soapboxy. she has a healthy body, which is rare to see on mtv. and if she weren’t underage, i’d insert some comment here to the effect of her general appeal, but i’ll skip that for another year or so.)

Kelly did not choose to cover “Papa Don’t Preach”, her mum Sharon picked the song for her. Kelly was not too keen on the idea but did it anyway. Probably a wise choice personally if not artistically – I know I wouldn’t want to tick Sharon off.

Oh, and she is not fat either.

I was actually going to start a thread on what everyone thought of her new song…but I see it’s already here!!

I thought it was kind of weird at first…It’s pretty different from the Madonna version. But I like them both, and I think Kelli did a good job on it. The video was weird, but cool…I saw the whole making of the video thing first, and then the actual video which was fun. She does seem like she would be interesting to hang with. It was like seeing someone you know be in a video, rather than all the pop star types.

I woud love to hang with Kelly. I would make her take me shopping! I saw the video today and I gotta say, it’s pretty ridiculous. I guess most videos are lip-synched, but damn. It’s so obvious- you’d think Sharon would make sure it was a quality project.

kelly osbourne seems like a complete and total idiot. but what can you expect from a little rich girl whose parents let her do whatever she wants.

and covering madonna can’t be too hard. madonna has a mediocre voice to begin with, so after all the digital “effects” on kelly’s voice, it’s no wonder it sounds fairly tolerable.

The video was confusing to me. Why did he decide to base the video on “Material Girl”? She’s singing about being in a pretty desperate situation even as she’s decked out like a million bucks.

Say what you will about Ozzy, but Sharon has got a great business sense. After all, look what she did for Ozzy’s career–started with him when he was at the absolute bottom, and rebuilt him into the “God” of hard rock.

So now Sharon is very aware that their MTV show has created an incredible window of opportunity. The family will never have this level of exposure & publicity again–so she is wisely trying to make the best of it.

I do get the feeling that Kelly isn’t too keen on this…I’m sure that Sharon applied a bit of pressure to get her to do all this. But Sharon knows enough about the music business to know that they’d be crazy to not capitalize on this opportunity to try and launch a career for one of their children.

I understand that the oldest Obsorne child–Aimee, is also trying to get a musical career going. But she is trying to do it on her own, without the appearance of riding Ozzy’s coattails. This is one of the reasons why she isn’t in the television show…(she’s also pretty good looking, I hear)

I thought it was based more on Nancy Sinatra’ “These Boots Were Made For Walking”. I don’t think I like or dislike the song, but for some g-d reason I can’t get it out of my head.

I like Kelly but, I was actually embarassed for her when I saw the video. Her voice is heavily synthecized. This tells me that perhaps she is not as musically gifted as her father.

I also think it would have added wonders to the video had Ozzy made a cameo appearance.

I was under the impression–from what Kelly and I think Sharon–say in the Making the Video special–that older daughter Aimee was supposed to record the song, and when she decided not to she suggested Kelly do it instead. Kelly also said that she’s planning to release an entire album of songs; I don’t know if they’re originals or what, but brace yourselves for the invasion of Kelly Osbourne.
