"She'll die anyway"

Crafter_Man, Oh I swear to god, in every thread I’ve seenyou in you pull up this “the government is holding me up at gunpoint” crap. You don’t like your government? Fucking move already and stop complaining

You’ve been arguing this entire fucking thread and no-one stuck a gun to your head.

The poor don’t deserve healthcare? Well that’s alright then, because I 'spose in your system they should all eat cake.

You went to a Catholic School? I agree with the opposite of you, private schools are the one that should be abolished. It’s called equal oppurtunity. When are you going to pay your parents back all the money you wasted on your education which didn’t teach you anything about soceity operates? Maybe you should’ve taken out a loan when you were 5, so that you could pay for it.

Back to the OP, are there any lobbies going at the moment is tassie, on behalf of the radiologists? It’s not like they have no morals and they can strike. You should write to A Current Affair, always after they do a segment, it always gets fixed up. And your story sounds just like one they would be interested in.

The thing is, Crafter_man we’re not forced to pay these taxes against our will. You see, we have these nifty things called elections, and all the people get together and have their vote about who they want to run things for the next few years. Now, for sure, some people won’t agree with all the decisions the government makes all the time - in fact there was a lady one A Current Affair just last week who wears a tinfoil hat and sleeps in a homemade faraday cage so the electricity won’t get her, and she thinks the government should do something about all the electricity that’s around.

It’s very easy to say that you want a userpays system of education and healthcare etc. when you have the ability to pay. Maybe even 50% of the population would agree with you - the top 50%. But people end up in situations, and sometimes they don’t deserve them. Sometimes, they’ve done everything right, and they’re still dirt poor. A women with 4 kids, who’s a homemaker has her breadwinner husband die suddenly - what is she to do?

To GYBRFE, I don’t know what’s being done in Tassie - I know it has been in the papers several times. As a family too, we’re doing everything we can - my uncle is the editor of a major newspaper in Tassie, and I’m sure he does what he can while maintaining journalistic integrity. My grandparents wouldn’t go for being on TV - they’re of the breed that says grin and bear it.

Sorry to hear about the sad situation. I wish your grandmother and your family the best things possible in this tough time.

It’s funny, when archeologists find evidence that ancient hominids took care of their wounded, it’s considered a step forward. Yet some today think it’s OK to deny folks medical care if they or their family/friends don’t have the money to pay for it. Astonishing.

I guess society just isn’t for everbody. Not even ancient society.

Robin, I’m so sorry about your grandma’s situation – thank God that she was able to get the treatment she needed to help ease her last weeks/months. After a long life she deserves the dignity and comfort of proper medical treatment.

Crafter Man, you’re an unmitigated selfish ass who lives in a society but doesn’t want to do his part. All you can do is parrot that fucking “gunpoint” canard, apparently memorized from some cheap-ass libertarian talking points newsletter. Who exactly is pointing a gun at you? You repeat it so often, there must be a masked man in your room right now, pressing cold steel into your temple. Should we call the police? Oh wait, no, I suppose if we did, you’d refuse their help, since on principle you don’t want to pay for the cops. Ditto if your house was on fire, you’ll watch it burn rather than accept the charity that the rest of your neighbors are providing you.

You worship “property” (by which you mean the little pieces of green paper) above humanity, and for that you are a contemptible worm who isn’t fit to be part of a community. I hope you take pride in your precious beliefs about how others’ health doesn’t affect you when someone sick with walking pneumonia or some other illness who can’t afford treatment sits next to you or your kid on a bus.

Health isn’t a right? Fuck you. I pay taxes (pretty high ones, here in NYC) and am proud to do so, knowing that I’m doing my part for my country. I care about my neighbors – even asshats like you. Gotta take the bad with the good, after all.

Not to mention, Crafter_Man, that Jesus also said, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.”

He wasn’t against taxation-far from it! He hung out with tax collectors!

I don’t really understand Crafter’s distinction between government programs that benefit us “generally” and programs that benefit specific individuals. I don’t think those distinctions hold any real meaning upon closer inspection.

Do the police benefit everyone? I haven’t had any need for their services for a long time. Why should I pay if you, a specific individual, need help from the police? Shouldn’t you have your own private security service you can pay for?
