The Blind Banker is definitely the weakest of the episodes to date. I can’t watch any of the scenes with Stereotypical Beautiful Chinese Maiden In Distress in them, it’s just too irritating.
I used to dislike Hound, but then I switched my perspective on it. As a mystery, it’s meh, but as an exploration of the friendship between Sherlock and John, it’s really good.
I think of them as movies more than “episodes” and loved all of them. I enjoied “creepy Moriarty” as a different take on the character. Loved the airliner episode. I thought that the “Hounds” episode would have been better if … well, SPOILERS****
…the hallucinations were due to some kind of leakage from a dump site in the old cave rather than intentional mischief from the scientist - in fact, I was thinking that was the most likely explaination all along until almost the end.
I recently rewatched all of them, even The Blind Banker, and although it’s still my least favourite there were some good and fun moments. Anything with the Stereotypical Chinese People was annoying, but John and Sherlock settling in together was actually pretty fun, especially John explaining the purpose of going on a date without his flatmate.
Anyone else think that the cyclist that ran into Watson looks a LOT like the cyclist that took the Bruce/Partington flash drive from his sister’s fiance?
And when and where can one in the USA watch the 3rd season? Will it even be here?
I proposed at the other board that we American fans ought to commission a British Doper to burn a CD with the new episodes and then fly over with it. Any takers?
The last series premiered in the UK on New Years Day–shortly after the end of post-production. PBS (Masterpiece) has the US rights & I believe they showed it in May.
Those wishing to pirate Sherlock needn’t wait for a CD to be flown over. In the grey area, logging in to the BBC site with a VPN like Tunnel Bear will allow any user to watch programming. The showing simultaneous with broadcast is preceded by a notice that BBC license holders only are allowed to watch; later viewings are not…
Last time, DVD’s went on sale shortly after the end of the series. UK outlets will ship–many Sherlock fans have region-free players. Historically, PBS has requested cuts to fit the show into the Masterpiece slot; the version that eventually streams on Netflix is uncut.
