The 20/20 interview aired last Friday night was recorded at a private location where the Papinis were staying and during segments where Keith Papini and Matt Gutman were seen outdoors there was snow on the ground. I imagine the interview was conducted either in the house where they’re staying or at a location near to it.
Why would you leave town permanently and not take your dogs? I cannot imagine that.
Why would anyone believe anything printed in a “newspaper” like the New York Post, which isn’t even useful for wiping one’s asshole?
Another forum had a possible reason: if you say you were abducted by two men, the next assumption will be that you were raped, which could be verified, or not, by a hospital examination after being released. Two woman abductors? no assumption of rape therefore lack of evidence of rape does not prove a hoax. Something like that.
In addition, just because the dogsitter says they are not coming back for the dogs does not mean that they will not.
They could very well have found a temporary place that didn’t allow pets (with or without a “rich relative”.) They might try to find a permanent place that will allow pets and if successful, come back secretly for the pets, without risking a media circus.
Must be a helluva big bulb in that projector.
Rape cannot be medically proven. Intercourse can’t even be proven sometimes, much less the intent behind any act.
If thousands of people were debating whether or not I’d been raped I’d leave my dogs and run away, too.
Hell, I had one of the Navy OB/GYNs send a nurse in to ask me if I wanted a rape kit done one time. Seriously aggressive sex can appear to have been rape if you go by the whole microtear/abrasion and which edge of the opening looks abraded. shrug Not all women are ‘delicate little flowers’, some of us happen to enjoy more fast and forceful sex now and again …
[Can’t remember offhand, if the abrasions are at the 12 o’clock position or the 6 o’clock position indicate ‘forceful’ penetration. Hell, I have had fingertip bruises left occasionally … We won’t go into the roomie I had back in the 80s who was into being spanked and whipped - she didn’t go to public beaches in the summer because of the bruising and marks, judging by the sounds coming from her half of the house she certainly enjoyed getting the marks …]
Almost 2 weeks since Sherri came home. I guess they didn’t have any witnesses or leads that would result in a quick arrest.
I think this will be a tough case to solve. She was just grabbed and thrown into a car. Any evidence they found would be limited. Unless investigators luck out and find the vehicle or where she was held.
There’s always a chance they’ll get a break in the case. But it may end up filed as a cold case.
Soft-ball, slow and underhand!
Thank you for sharing the results of your latest urology exam.
I don’t have an opinion on what happened…could be real, could be faked. However, I did think one thing the husband said was extraordinarily peculiar - he said that her “signature” long blond hair had been cut off. WTF? Who says things like that in this context? Or really, who says them at all? If my husband ever said anything like, “ah yes, my wife’s signature plucked eyebrows” and wasn’t being tongue-in-cheek, I’d worry that he was losing his marbles.

Meh, the exceptional length and beauty of her hair was striking and could easily have become a something she was known for and which could have become a significant part of her self image. I could see friends or family members start to teasingly or jokingly refer to it as her ‘signature’ long hair, and after a while referring to it that way just becomes the norm in their circle. Then, in an effort to convey more clearly her sense of loss, her husband referred to it that way in making his statement.
Okay, Mr. Artist, we’ve reviewed your statement. One thing I’m having trouble with— and maybe you can just help me understand— is why you didn’t mention anything about the victim’s shapely calves, 50-gigawatt smile, or limpid blue eyes that you could lose yourself in for days. Is there some reason you would withhold that information? And can you account for your whereabouts during the time in question?
Certainly. I’ve never seen her calves, 50-gigawatts isn’t sufficiently powerful to describe the beauty of her smile, and I never get lost in anyone’s eyes for days. I have to eat and sleep you know.
Plus I can prove I was here at my computer many states away arguing with nimrods on the Straight Dope the entire time she was gone.
I have to say that I absolutely cannot appreciate that awful, gummy smile. More gum than a Trident factory.
Seriously though, I’m very glad she’s alive. Hopefully she can get through this mess. I’m sure that she was kidnapped. I don’t doubt what happened really happened, but yes, there are hundreds of questions as to why it happened.
I think some people are hoping it isn’t true and it’s a hoax, just because an adult being kidnapped off a road in the US is a bit frightening. Horrifyingly frightening, in fact. That’s my second worst fear. Being taken by people for whatever reason, be it sex, slavery or just to torture someone to death because your kidnapper thinks it’s the bees knees to do so.
I’m hoping for an arrest soon. Best way to get the answers, I suppose.
Totally inappropriate, I know, but I laughed too much at this…
But back to the long blonde hair… In the husband’s interview, he said her “signature” long blonde hair was chopped off but the lady who first saw her on the side of the road, Alison Sutton, said this -
“The woman I saw had long blonde hair and was not appropriately dressed for as cold as it was. She didn’t have a jacket,” she explained.
Has anyone else mentioned this and/or found an explanation?
OK… just a guess…
If I was semi-vain and proud of my beauty… and if I was raped/tattooed/branded… and my kidnappers repeatedly told me how they picked me for my looks… and how their clients would love my looks… how that was the only thing that made me desirable to them…
Maybe in my grief/pain/rage, I’d take steps to make myself less attractive so that this would never happen to me again?
Just a guess.
Q: Have some women who have been raped… after the event and in a wrong-headed act of shame, self blame and self hatred… cut off their own hair?
I thought that I had heard that this has happened.
That’s an interesting theory, admittedly. However there are several people who would know better. The other drivers who saw her and passed her by, including the one who finally got the police out to rescue her, the highway patrolman who found her, the ambulance and hospital staff who treated her, and finally the sheriff and his investigators. It would take quite a leap of faith for Keith to put this information out there if it were false and trust in none of these people to speak out or leak information to the contrary. And if you’ll recall, the sheriff, when asked if he could confirm that the information in Keith Papini’s statement was true, stated that it was. It would be most unusual for a police officer of his rank and in his position as chief investigator to substantiate such information, knowing that there were other people who knew better and that if it became public knowledge that he’d lied to the press about it his credibility would be shot from that point on.
My feeling has been that this woman had seen Sherri Papini’s photo many times and had that image pretty well burned into her memory, so to speak, and when it turned out the woman she had seen that night was indeed Sherri Papini, her mind mixed together the fleeting images she saw upon suddenly encountering Sherri for a brief moment in her headlights that night with the images of Sherri that she already had in her mind.
But who can say for sure? I have a feeling that for reasons of her own that are both understandable and excusable, Sherri Papini is lying about who abducted her and what happened during her captivity. I doubt we’ll ever learn the truth, or the full truth even if we eventually learn some of it. I just hope that the Papini’s marriage survives and that they can regain as much of a normal life in the future as is possible, although I can’t imagine how or where.
