She's a lesbian and he's gay. And in other news, the pope is Catholic

It doesn’t make him not gay, but Mr. Sulu did have a daughter in Star Trek Generations, so he’s at the very least been married (judging by Demora’s name).

The Space Pope!

But is that homosexuality or bestiality?

Starbuck: Gay. Both of 'em.

In fact, the first Starbuck and Apollo may be the original ambiguously gay duo.

“What are you looking at?”

Depending on how gay-friendly and/or technologically advanced in reproductive science the 23rd century Federation is, this proves nothing.

No, wait…Berman produced it, right? He’s straight, then. :smack:

I always saw sexual tension there between Geordi and Data. Data was awfully attached to Geordi, and Geordi’s interest in women was only because he was closeted. I figured those two would eventually get together, retire their commission, and adopt a couple of kids and a toaster.

Of course he’s gay. He’s too fabulous to be straight. Besides, he showed an unusual interest in Picard for a haughty omnipotent being.

I just keep flashing back to that scene where he gets his powers back and appears on the Enterprise to celebrate with a mariachi band. “Fabulous” is a good description.

I’ll be in my bunk.

In my opinion, if you pay close attention through Firefly, it is clear that Inara and Kaylee are fuckbuddies. They’re not having a serious relationship, but they are definitely having friendly sex on a fairly regular basis.

Go on, watch it again. You’ll see that I’m right.

At Trek conventions, Andy Robinson will often tell people that he plays Garak as gay/bi and attracted to Dr. Bashir.

Hmmm… I always thought of Lorne as socially gay… I mean, we don’t even really know what the normal sex life of dethwok demons is like, and for most of the series he was the only known one in our dimension.

But when he was stranded on Earth, he happened upon a few examples of ‘the flamboyantly gay entertainer’ in the media and kind of imitated them as his role model in adapting to our culture, possibly because they looked like they were having the most fun and enjoying music the most.

Rocky and Bullwinkle.

What, 'cause he’s a mama’s boy?

What, 'cause she’s in security and carries weapons?

Naw, she’s just a 1930s society dame trapped in a world with no 1930s society fellas. (Give her a moonlight swim with Jimmy Stewart on the holodeck and I’ll bet she’d cave. Although there’s every possibility she’s bi. Throw Ruth Hussey in there too and see what develops.)

Prissy, capricious and catty? OK, I’ll give you Q. Plus there’s that initial.

Considering Kaylee first came onto Serenity to have hot monkey sex with the ship’s first (male) engineer (and it’s clear that she was only in it for the sex) in the engine room, (and her crush on Simon), it seems unlikely.

Plus she wondered if the male whores in “Heart of Gold” serviced women. Kaylee likes boys. A LOT. She gets all moon-eyed around Inara because she wants to have as much sex as she’s having, and is jealous.

Besides, she complains in the movie that she’s “had nothing 'twixt my nethers that didn’t run on batteries” for a good long time, including when Inara would have been on board.

As for Wesley Crusher, while he did have an unhealthy relationship with the Traveller, being teh victim of a creepy cosmic pedophile doesn’t make you homosexual. In a later episode, he sucessfully wooed a not-quite famous Ashley Judd. Even if he spends the rest of his days at bathhouses and Broadway shows, he’s already make achievements in heterosexuality that most of us can only dream of.

Alright–let’s talk MAS*H. (TV show, not movie or book)

Margaret: Definitely a closet case. She probably doesn’t even admit it to herself. But by the time she’s 50, she’ll be living with a “roommate.”
Evidence: Only goes for unavailable men. Frank was married, and she knew he was a boob, so wouldn’t have wanted to be with him permanently anyway. Donald Penobscot was emotionally unavailable, and conveniently stationed in another country. IIRC, the only guy she showed any passion for was Sgt. Scully in that one episode, and he was unavailable too.
Unfortunately, in her twilight years, she will vocally support Clinton’s “don’t ask don’t tell” policy. Hey, it worked for her, right?

Radar: gay. He maintained an immature persona because it helped him avoid having to deal with his feelings. Nobody expected a guy who drank grape Nehi to go skirt-chasing, so his apparent lack of sexuality was a non-issue. Col. Potter recognized his homosexuality, and while he didn’t ever directly address it, he did give him lots of fatherly talks about being true to himself and so forth.
Surprisingly, Radar did find a fulfilling and happy life on the farm in Ottumwa, Iowa. After he got back from Korea, he was recognized and adopted by the small but active community of gay farmers in the area. He eventually took on a “partner” to help run the farm. By the 1980s, it will be common knowledge that he’s gay, and his “regular guy” status will go a long way toward increasing tolerance and understanding in the community.

Hawkeye: Not gay. But is interested in group-sex activities, and if other men are included, then they’re included, if you know what I mean.

Klinger: Straight as can be, but had a transvestite uncle who taught him how to dress.

I felt near the end they were clearly implying Jane was gay or bi. Her relationship with Tom burned out pretty quickly and her only other male relationship was pretty much a waste. She had a bi artist come on to her and said something like “You know the other night kinda confused me”

Later she was rekindling with Dara and said something about how her artist retreat brought up some issues she needed to talk about but didn’t want to bring it out just yet.

God…I know way too much about that show for a male.

How about Adam West-era Batman and Robin?

(Alfred was probably in on it too.)

Bob, on Sesame Street . He’s been “dating” Linda, the deaf librarian, for how long?

So, this thread is shaping up to make it seem as if there are only gay-acting characters in sci-fi and fantasy (and MASH…)

Who’d a thunk it?
