WTF?
OF course this is a tragedy. And more so than fucking Princess Fucking Diana.

There is a recurring rumor that Dodi al Fayyeed (or whatever his name is ) was seen in Dallas on the day JFK was assassinated. Coincidence? I think not.
Also he was reported to have received a phone call warning him to stay out of the Twin Towers on 9/11. part of a conspiracy? You be the judge.
Or was that Princess Di herself who got the phone call? She was already dead? Well, that is a convenient exciuse, isn’t it?
A likely story…since when has death been a valid excuse?

I’m firmly in the STFU about it camp but I don’t think it’s the fault of the Brits. Hell, it’s Americans that won’t let it go. None of the Brits I know either living here or in the UK give a rat’s-ass about Diana. A lot of them didn’t care for her too much when she was alive and care even less now.
OTOH, I mentioned to an American that I thought Diana was “moderately good-looking but dumb as a brick” and thought he was going to have a stroke. There is some kind of cult-like obsession with Diana that I have never been able to fathom. She married the future King and decided she couldn’t stand him. Or maybe he couldn’t stand her, who knows? Also, who cares? I wouldn’t want to be married to either of them.
And what is the big deal with Prince Charles having some fancy piece on the side? Royalty everywhere has wenched and whored since there was such a thing as royalty. Hell, women are one of the perks of the job. I think it was a US politician that said that; “power is a good aphrodisiac.”
FWIW, the Royal I like best and would really miss is Prince Phillip. That guy’s good value for money and no bullshit about him.

As he would have been about 7 years old at the time, and was in boarding school in Switzerland, it seems pretty unlikely.
Wait a minute. Kennedy was the sitting President at the time, with actual, formidable responsibilities. He had steered this country through some very rough waters, both domestically and abroad, such as the Cuban missile crisis and racial tensions brought on by segregation. Yes, he also happened to be a handsome, wealthy guy, but to reduce him to the same level as Princess Di is ridiculous. Lovely as she was, she wasn’t responsible for anyone save her two kids and herself, nor, incidentally, was she gunned down like a dog while going about her business. You didn’t have to even like Kennedy to be deeply impacted by his assassination.
There are two reasons why 9/11 and Kennedy’s death stick with people. First, the murders happened in broad daylight, on our own soil and happened to be filmed so we felt like we experienced it in real time. And secondly, the murders struck a tremendous blow to the national psyche. Both left us with a lingering sense of unease knowing that we have an enemy amongst us and have no idea who it is and when he’ll strike again.
Damn me to heck for thinking I came up with something in page 3 of a thread that hadn’t been brought up before. Curse you, OtakuLoki, I shall have my revenge! <picture me shaking my fist in a menacing manner>
Marc
Yeah, and if Guin had tried to claim that 9/11 was worse than the tsunami in '04, she’d be a right fucking moron, wouldn’t she?
Now compare that to the claims you’ve made in this thread about Princess Di.
Jackass.
Gloriously stupid and ignorant rant, Cubsfan. Quite oustanding.
Which ‘damn Brits’ are you referring to? There are over 60 million ‘Brits’. How many of us actually care one iota about Di or her death? You have no idea. For all you know, 50,750,000 of us could not care less. It’s at best a sloppy generalisation and at worst a racist rant. What’s more, I know that this is the Pit and all, but even so… if you had bothered to stop and think for even a moment, you would have realised that most of the agitation for a formal inquest has come from Mohamed Al-Fayed, who is not British.
As has already been pointed out to you, Captain Genius, this is in fact the first British inquest. The others must be in your imagination. So now you’re pitting events that have only happened in your imagination, somewhere deep inside your tiny mind. Smart? Not so much.
We, the British people, do not decide what is or is not covered by your news media.
Marvellously accurate summary. Congrats.
That’s what they want you to think. He was actually in Dallas in 1963 for the ground breaking of his secret TV studio, a facility that would prove vital to the Freemasons when they filmed the moon landing six years later.
Brit chiming in to say that I have virtually no interest in Princess Diana. I “let it go” a few seconds after I heard the news. I know of no friends or relatives that regard her death as anything to occupy more than a few neurons over the last decade.

Thank you. Most of the Brits I know (with the exception of Wee Bairn) regarded her the same way many Americans do the First Lady. Not something particularly important.
If she didn’t have a billionaire pushing for this inquest she’d be completely forgotten-about by now.

My mom has always been a big fan of gossip magazines, so I was able to follow the Diana tabloid narrative from way back. You couldn’t ask for a better soap opera to sell magazines. Diana wasn’t simply presented as someone who married a royal and then decided she couldn’t stand him. She was portrayed as a young girl who got suckered into marrying a man she thought loved her, only to find out he was in love with someone else. Prince Charles had apparently been considered hot back in his day, but he became a villain. It was rarely suggested that she’d been anything other than a saint with fashion sense, and she was portrayed as dying just as she had found some happiness.

Yeah, a cross between a soap-opera and a fairy tale. I dislike the worship business but have to agree that it will certainly sell magazines. I wonder when we’ll get a movie. So, Charles got made out to be the bad guy in all of this. I don’t particularly like the guy but there was something wrong with Diana from the start.

Yeah, and isn’t he pissed about that. Mohamed “Thieving Arab” Al-Fayed thought he’d finally finally got his entree into the upper circles of British society, since his brat was going to marry Princess Dimbo and get her knocked up. Finally, he’d get given a british passport and people would stop treating him like a dog turd covered in really tacky sequins. And then what happens? His idiot son and idiot alleged bride-to-be get killed in a car crash, because of the drunken incompetence of daddy’s employee. So ever since he’s been running round claiming that MI6 (no known covert skills, or indeed skills of any kind) acting on the orders of Prince “Give me a gin and punch that slitty-eyed foreigner” Philip had them assassinated and then flawlessly hushed the whole thing up - yeah, THATS a much more likely scenario. According to the front of someone elses newspaper on the train, he’s currently spending something like $1.5M a year promoting this theory, and has dozens of people working full-time on keeping The Perfect Media ShitStorm going. Fucking pack of skunk-raping coyotes the lot of them.
And I haven’t met anyone from the UK who gives a toss about Princess Dull-but-Dim in the last decade, most of the worshippers of Her Worthlessness seem to be foreigners.
I don’t know a single person who cares at all about Diana, though they wouldn’t be friends for long if they did.
What’s the problem with selecting the media that you consume to avoid the pap though? I read decent newspapers and sometimes watch decent TV news programmes, where Diana is barely mentioned, if at all. Surely it’s only by buying into crappy media that we encourage its production?
And Wee Bairn, you have the logic of a Small Baby. Please stop it before I’m forced to exhume your saintly princess and skull-fuck her.
I’m not going to sift through all these pages of Diana stuff but I wanted to say that my co-worker came into my office yesterday to say that Princess Diana was not pregnant when she died. This is huge news now? NOW? You know who else is not pregnant? ME! I’m not! No one is writing any articles about that one.
Not yet but wait until you croak
Reiterating what many have said, I’m British and cared not a jot about Diana pre or post death.
In fact, I’ve never met anyone that actually gave a shit about her one way or the other.
