Ye Gods, there have been a bunch. Mostly “documentaries” but at least a couple of cheesy US cable movies.
Speaking as a Brit I think that she was a saint and if only she’d lived she would have no doubt found a cure for cancer and brought about world peace .
I pray to her every day.
But I am aware that the majority of Brits, apart from those that we choose to call the "Diana Loonies "couldn’t give a flying fuck for anything the self serving ,lying ,posturing ,hypocritical, slapper did in life and certainly couldn’t care less now.
Obviously I dont hold with those views myself.
If any Dopers wish to join the campaign to get Di canonised you’ll find leaflets available at your nearest secure Psychiatric hospital.
Speaking as a Brit myself I totally agree with your post and I think that some Brits should be reminded that Brits died in 9/11.
As I’ve said before, I was in London the day of her funeral.
Standing there totally bemused by all the fucking hoo-ha and surrounded by idiot brained tossers crying their eyes out for a woman they never even knew.
Flowers, cuddly toys and all manner of shit festooning the pavements…the shopkeepers must have made a bleeding fortune
Yeah, the South could still use some fixing.
Well, there was that doper who pretended his parents died in the 9/11 attacks. I can’t remember what made him do that though.
He was losing an argument, badly, and threw it out as a “How can you contradict me when I suffered this terrible loss?” It was effective at first, till someone dredged up a post of his that made it plain his parents were very much still alive. Then the blowback began.
If given a choice between a story about Diana Spencer or Britney Spears, I’ll take old Di any fucking day…
Actually, I’d have felt the opposite-another spoiled rich girl marrying into a bunch of rich, inbred snobs. (Oh, and Elizabeth and her parents were HARDLY stodgy-you should have seen the Queen Mum when she was young)
Tell me-when Grace Kelly died, did they have the same fuss?
(Especially as she was a screen legend as well as a princess.)
And hell, the royals I mentioned didn’t die in accidents, either-they were all assasinated. Chew on THAT, Wee Bairn.
Sure, she’ll be in history books, but will she be remembered? Lots of people who were famous in 1507 are footnotes now. I suspect Diana Spencer is destined for footnote status.
RickJay to be a bit contrarian - Anne Boleyn is still remembered, mostly for the circumstances of her death and her connection to royalty. It’s not impossible that Diana will make the cut.
Interesting choice of words, considering the comparison subject.
wrong thread :smack:
