Shin Splints and bruising

Can you get bruises from Shin-Splints???
cause my friend says that she has some???

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Shin splints are actually generally small fractures in your shin bone (I forget the actual name of the bone). Fractures cause brusising to appear and the area to be sensitive. I’m a runner, and that’s exactly what I had last season. So believe her and pity her, they hurt like hell.

I develop a noticable bump on my left shin when running. It hurts while running but is not tender to touch and always appears in the same spot. The trainer at my gym told me with was a shin splint. I say no. There is no bruising at all. It goes away 5 to 10 mins after I stop running.

While we’re on the subject, is there a good way to avoid or lessen the chances of getting shin splints (other than inactivity, I mean)?
