Shingles vax

I had a mammogram a couple months ago, have a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy scheduled for a few weeks from now, and plan on getting a covid booster between the shingles booster and the scopes. Yup, awesome year.

I asked my doctor about a tetanus shot and was surprised to learn i did it quite recently. So i won’t be doing that this year.

We are all forgetting about our yearly flu shot! Those are pretty important as well.

Eh, that was months and months ago.

And due in about six months again. Where has the time gone???

What, you don’t keep your own meticulous records of all the shots you’ve had? I do, for about the last 20 years (and 50 years for the tetanus boosters). Annual flu shots, tdaps or dtaps (they vary), old shingles shot, new shingles shots, old pneumonia shot, new pneumonia shots, and now the covid shots. No hydroxychloroquine or bleach injections, though.

I got mine the beginning of last year, and it didn’t bother me at all. My mother had shingles and it wasn’t fun, so I was motivated.

That’s been me the last several months. But get 'er done and then it is done.

Both of my shingles shots knocked me on my butt for almost a week each time. None of my Pfizer covid vaccinations have bothered me at all. I got my second booster yesterday, and not even a sore arm.

Re: waterbed

Just get a new mattress. It was a helluva lot cheaper than a new mattress of any flavor. Burp it occasionally and use the conditioner.

We have a waterbed at our home in AZ, a standard queen bed in SCal at The Daughter’s house. We just arrived back in AZ after five months in SCal. Sleeping on our waterbed was DELICIOUS. My eyes close seconds after I hit the pillow and pull the covers over me. Then I am completely unconscious until morning.

I LOVE that bed!

I remember the last time we got a new mattress. We drained the old one as best as we could and then had to cut up the mattress to move it. It was a super waveless-type (like the current one) and the inside was kind of like a sponge. Far too heavy to move. It was a huge pain in the ass and messy. We may just live with what we have for now. The main issue is the changing of the sheets. My wife usually does it and it is a PITA. This encourages longer times between changes.

@MikeF

I hear ya on the sheet changing! I gave that job to Mr VOW a long time ago, because of my back. We tried waterbed sheets, and they were burned, I think. What works best, for us, is two flat sheets. You’d think buying a single flat sheet would be easy? Hell, no. Sheets apparently get lonely, so they are only sold in sets.

We are going to get new floors, and I dread the hassle of the bed. So, I deal with that by putting it completely out of my my mind.

If you do choose to change out mattresses, do yourself a favor and get a soft sided bed. Changing the sheets on mine is a breeze, it’s like dressing a standard mattress. It has two bladders so we can each choose our own firmness level and we both have our own heaters and controls.

IMHO, this is the best bed we have ever owned. (Waterbed stores usually have pumps you can rent that will suck almost all of the water out of the anti-wave stuff to make the old mattress lighter.)

My wife got a pair of big plastic wedge thingies to jack up one corner of the mattress at a time. They help, but making the bed is still a PITA.

It’s been about a year since I got the Shingrix vaccine, but I don’t remember enough pain to even comment. I do remember asking the pharmacist for about two years whether or not it was in stock. Finally, once the pandemic started, they had it.

My arm hurt like a bitch after both shots. And I got a terrible headache after both and some flu symptoms after the second. After the first shot I got a mild case of hives under the arm I received the injection in. They lasted about 10 days.

I’m guessing you had a reaction as well.

After my original post I continued to feel worse as the day went on, to the point where I thought I was going to have to leave work. I made until the end of the day but went home and crashed. The next day I felt about 80% and my arm was much better. One more day and back to 100%. I’m glad that’s over with.

Ah, here’s the thread i was looking for. I bumped a different one because i couldn’t find this one. Oh well.

My arm is very sore. I’m tired. Going to bed. I warned my coworkers i might take tomorrow off.

You are a mod, you have the power to close outdated threads. I certainly wouldn’t cry if you closed my old shingles thread when you are feeling up to doing some housekeeping.

Okay, now I’ve done both shingles shots, the mammogram, the recent covid booster, the endoscopy and the colonoscopy. I see i have an appointment with a dermatologist coming up, but that’s just my annual, “look at my skin in case these spots are dangerous” thing, based on family history. But I’m basically done with unpleasant medical stuff for a while.

And I’m still on the ten year plan for the colonoscopy! Woot. But i gotta say, my colon looks all old and wrinkled as compared to ten years ago. The doctor thought it looked good for my age and family history, though.

Come on, you can’t just drop this here and not bring pics!

(In case it isn’t clear, that’s a joke. Please PLEASE do not bring pics.)
