I’ve been living in Denmark for a while now, and I’m getting ready to go home. I have loads of crap too. The thing is that I would like to consider shipping home my luggage. I priced it on Fedex and it was about 500 dollars! I also looked at the Danish post as well, and it was similarly expensive. I have about 3 or 4 20 kg bags. I would rather have a hassle-free trip home, and this would make things easier, but yeah, ouside of FedEx and UPS and general post, I see no other alternatives. Anyone have any ideas? I realize that I can pay extra to bring them home with me, but still, it isn’t looking good.
I have a similiar problem. I picked up a flier from Seven Seas Worldwide at my university. It looks slightly cheaper than FedEx: 225 euro for the first bag and 95 for each additional. It still seems ridiculously expensive.
I have never done this, but my daughter is in Europe now and we were told not to try to ship things home. The containers get held up in customs for up to months. I assume they are checking for drugs or bombs or bug-ridden fruit. Anyway, we were told that it is far more practical to cart all the extra stuff home as checked baggage. Awkward, but at least it gets home.
My $0.02 worth.
no good advice for Europe, other than what **rbroome ** said. Customs will make you regret it, if you do. In the US, though, the story is quite different. I owned a UPS Store in FL and people did that all the time. It is cheap and it is safe. Any ground service (UPS or FedEx) will make your trip so much nicer without lugging stuff around.
