I was wondering if some SDopers have worked on ships’ facility maintenance. I was looking for info on HVAC/R systems. What common maintenance problems are there? I imagine most systems are hydronic, and the hot water (heated by heat rejection) serves to warm other areas of the ship…
Also, what problems are these systems most vulnerable to? Fouling from oil leaking past the compressor (as carried by the refrigerant)? Scaling problems in hydronic lines from impurities in the water?
I’m just talking off the top of my head…maybe someone has some details to share and/or a website which would be a better source of info…
