I get the idea from reading a few of the notes that it’s not even the ladies that were the target audience in mind. So not so much homophobe as lack of gaydar. 
Cool stuff. I remember having the hots for John Byrne’s Wolverine and Magneto.
Some of that stuff does look kinda porn-ish. When I was a kid, mom didn’t want me reading comics because they were violent. Little did she know I wasn’t reading them for the violence.
They’re never depicted with the kind of scarring a life of combat would inflict. Batman has been shot, stabbed, slashed, burned with fire, burned with acid, and burned with radiation, as well as kicked and punched about a million times. He’s drawn to look like an underwear model though.
You know, I can’t help but wonder what’s in a professional comic book artist’s porn closet. These guys can draw the ultimate slash art.
