Really, Bayard should win something for that. A three-word headline that uses double-meanings for all three words is, uh, delicious. Or something.
Hey! I set up the joke!! I get an assist! And 2/7’s of the internet!!
Yeah, it was really a tip-in after your setup. But I’m happy to get the credit.
Sorry we only award the world once per day. Today wasn’t your day. Better luck tomorrow.
Curses!! And they wondered why I turned to a life of crime!!!
Bayard, I’m a rhythm guitarist; i live for the proper setup
Turns out it was Cohen himself who answered the door at his apartment. I would pay good money for them to release a shot of the expression on his face when he opens the door and sees what looks like the entire FBI staring at him.
I doubt it. Getting a warrant to raid the president’s attorney is going to require a pretty rock solid case. They aren’t on a fishing expedition, you don’t get warrants like this on fishing expeditions.
Having said that, I’m 100% in favor of Cohen and Trump getting prosecuted for the perjury trap.
Is that why I keep hearing about a dirty team and a clean team? The dirty team examines everything, but only the issues related to the warrant are handed over to the clean team?
IANAL, but that’s my understanding. That way, the investigators get what they need without having access to privileged communication. The “dirty team”, I presume, is forbidden to reveal the contents of any privileged communication. Now, should they happen to stumble across evidence that the attorney committed other crimes, then I dunno. I guess they can refer that to someone? I dunno.
Only the things that are not privileged are handed over to the clean team. If they find something while validly executing a legitimate warrant (only looking where the warrant says they can look), they can hand that over, so long as it is not privileged, even if it was not what the warrant identified.
Two things about privilege:
-
If Cohen was acting in the Stormy Daniels matter without Trump’s knowledge, there is no attorney/client privilege.
-
If Cohen was acting in the Stormy Daniels matter with Trump’s knowledge, but they were conspiring to do something illegal, there is no attorney/client privilege.
The Taint Team!! Taint!
“What took you so long?”
Best tweet I’ve seen about the raid:
I said in another thread ( and on twitter ) that most investigations are like looking for a needle in a haystack. This one is like looking for hay in a haystack.
And I also pointed at that if law enforcement really wanted to get Trump, all they’d have to do is get their hands on every loan application that the Trump Organization or Donald Trump ever submitted to a financial institution. Then every time they find an untruth in one of these applications , charge him with bank fraud.
His comments this morning about the FBI raid made him go up in my esteem several points. That was classy, and showed and independence of thought from The Great Oompa that I didn’t expect.
(I still suspect he is a terrible human being and if I stepped in him I’d be looking for a stick to wipe my shoe off with.)
Perhaps we could award you a piece of the moon.
That works. He deserves something for that set up.
There you go again, promising the moon and stars to people!
I’m very afraid that promises of moons will go, ahem, south very quickly.
