I’m trying to clean my house, but it seems like I have endless, little pieces of shit all over the place.

There are pieces of string and lint from my dog’s cushion since he chews on it and tries to rearrange it. I found three little round pieces of Magnetix balls, tiny, little Lego pieces, screws, I’m not sure where they came from, paper scraps from my daughter’s art projects, and staples, also from her projects.

I also have bigger pieces of shit around. Empty video tape boxes, I don’t know where the movies are, all different sizes of rechargers for tools and cell phones, pens and pencaps, magazines and sales flyers, bits of my dog’s toys and leaves from a very sick plant.

I’m not a slob, I pick this stuff up everyday. My kids try to clean up their things, but they always miss the little things.

No more shit please.

Crews clean up St. Paul ‘garbage house’

St. Paul cleanup crews with pitchforks and shovels were removing garbage by the truckload Wednesday from a house in the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood where police said three adults and four children had been living for years amid feces, rats and piles upon piles of garbage.

An 11-year-old boy who lived there told police it had been that way since he was born, while his 7-year-old sister said they pretended it wasn’t so dirty. Police said there were “nests” in the garbage on mattresses where residents slept.

St. Paul authorities condemned the house at 1265 Stanford Av. on March 24, deeming it unfit for human habitation. The children, ages 11, 9, 7 and 5, were examined and bathed at a hospital before being placed in protective custody.

Two sisters, aged 43 and 39, had lived in the house with the 19-year-old son of one of them since their mother died last July at 77. The older sister told police she had a 5-year-old daughter, while her sister had four children, including the 19-year-old son. No criminal charges have been filed, but the matter has been referred to Ramsey County social service caseworkers.

Terry O’Rourke, a public works employee assigned to the house, said it might take a few days and six garbage trucks to get all the junk out. “This is a very nice neighborhood, but these garbage houses can pop up anywhere,” O’Rourke said.

According to police reports, the porch was filled to the ceiling with garbage that stank so badly that they feared that a dead body was decomposing inside. The floors were covered with garbage 2 feet deep, and animal feces were peppered about. Stairs weren’t visible and had become a “ramp of garbage.”
