SHOCKING News From Oberlin! [re: racist incidents]

There you go again with the big words. Let me help you out: “Grunt snort scratch scratch snort.”

It is a pain to paste URLs for every one of them. Here a few more.

http://articles.latimes.com/2004/apr/20/local/me-hoax20/3 (this documents multiple incidents)

all from local or national newspapers.

LA Times, Star Tribune and local newspapers. Hugely embarrassing.

While I remain unconvinced by Terr, it occurs to me that no one is pointing out that elucidator’s argument is also a steaming pile of crap – specifically, an ad hominem attack. Let’s assume that all of Terr’s sources are militant right-wing blogs whose only idols are O’Keefe and Breitbart.

Does elucidator believe that he has thus disproved any of the incidents?

Who the fuck cares where he got the list? Let’s say the list was handed to him by Michelle Malkin, with Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity singing the soundtrack from Leni Riefenstahl’s “Triumph of the Will” in the background, accompanied by John “Torture Memo” Yoo on cowbell. OK?

So, now that this is out of the way, what, if anything, is your argument, elucidator?

Looking at the reports it is clear that all the perpetrators are not being look at with just amusement by the authorities or schools, in fact most were suspended or expelled.

The last one in particular also points at a case **were racist incidents were also taking place **besides what the hoaxers did (that once again, is not ok also)

So, your previous list of incidents include any number of such that are more than a few years old, then? My mistake, I thought that you were talking about more or less recent events. For instance, the most recent of the Star/Tribune list is 2004. Going back to 1990. Now, it is true you made no actual claim to timeliness, but it was a detail you could have offered. Some might even suggest that you *should *have.

Who was talking about “amusement”? Oberlin perpetrators were not looked at with “just amusement”. They were suspended and “removed from campus” (whatever that means). Yet the fact that they were leftist pranksters is being covered up by the school and studies were suspended for one day to make room for anti-racism rallies without one mention by the administration that it was a hoax.

The list of incidents I gave is in the last decade or so. Some are a year or two old. Some 5 or 6 years. Some more. You’re welcome to check.

Once again, omitting the detail that other incidents were reported before, of what the hoaxers did, just leads me to dismiss what you say as just partisan crap.

His argument is that straight, white Republicans are working to disenfranchise students wherever they can. Because the opinions of young people are becoming increasingly less relevant, we should cut them some slack and let them protest where they can.

Dude – The Daily Caller’s piece is sourced from a police report obtained from the Oberlin Police Department. A “blogger” is not the source. The police department that investigated the hate hoax at Oberlin is.

Reading comprehension is a skill. Idiot.

How do you know they are disproportionate? Conservative kids hoax slightly different shit, but a hoax is a hoax.

Princeton hoax

Conservative students don’t typically hoax hate crimes for probably obvious reasons. Perhaps they pretend to be gay instead?

Welcome, Caller. You’re not allowed to call people names in this forum. You can do it in The BBQ Pit, but not Great Debates or other parts of the site. So please don’t do it again.

Well for starters, *Breitbart *is a shameless purveyor of political crap. As for the others in your list, they are equally so. My only point being that suspect sources are just that, suspect. They are to be accorded the respect they deserve, and not a bit more.

I note that you say you “are unconvinced by Terr”. As am I, but perhaps not as inclined to your delicacy of phrase. Having established your skeptical credentials, you bring the theme round to the important issue of me and my grievous flaws of character. or at least the ones you are aware of. (There are many, many more, I have that on good authority.)

So, if you’re done now, can we get back to the matter at hand?

Thank you ITRChampion ! You summed up the whole issue.
Why is this thread getting sidetracked with issues of cites, hoaxes and timelines?
The issue is that an entire university closed itself down, and required* every single student to gird his loins and do battle---- with an imaginary boogeyman.
They had to convince themelves yet again that they, and only they, are the politically-correct force of goodness and light.
*Here’s a video of the solidarity rally.Oberlin college has only 2900 students…and you can see all of them here. Woe be unto the student who dares to be different at a left-wing college.

Why should I have to? But more to the point, twenty odd incidents over ten years or more? Should we be alarmed, or merely perplexed and disapproving? If you don’t have a larger point, all well and good, but then why are you wasting our time? Unless, of course, you are hoping to imply and insinuate what you cannot prove.

So, only left wing students would want to to go to an anti-racism rally? I doubt that very much.

What I see so far is that we can see misguided students thinking that it is a good idea to launch a hoax when they think that the authorities are not paying attention to the real reprehensible incidents.

That does not make it right guys, but the full context also does not leave the attempt at minimizing the real abuses to go unnoticed.

The last link mentioned by Terr does point to an indecent that is almost just like the one described here, it even was cherry picked as the previous incident, the right wing sources omitted mentioning that real racist incidents were taking place also, and the reported hoax involved a few leaflets left in some cars. Yet, as the Southern Poverty Law Center reported, evidence appeared later in the year that showed that real racist incidents were still taking place and that Klansman were involved.

Sure. If you believe what the hoaxers claim and if you believe what the administration (that were caught blatantly lying about the incident) said.

Has anyone checked to see how many non-fraudulent incidents have happened in that period of time?

Because you seem to be so interested.

Twenty as an example that I googled quickly. There were a lot more. If twenty don’t demonstrate it for you, a hundred won’t.
