Shodan, Come, Let Us Reason Together

Nah, the support of European leftists is of no interest to me.

Well darn that Tony Blair, then…

:smack:

I hate when that happens!

At least the Prime Minister has some cajones, rather unlike the electorate in Spain.

To paraphrase the Lady Thatcher, “don’t go all wobbly on us, George”. Well, this George isn’t going wobbly, and neither has Mr. Blair, to both of their credits.

Naw, they’re staying the course straight down the road to perdition.

Sometimes staying the course is exactly what we need, and I disagree that we’re on the road to perdition. YMMV.

Your milage may vary on the road to perdition.

<snerk>

Oh, definitely. The Bushies are miles and miles ahead of the rational people on that road…

Yeah, how DARE those Europeans actually choose their own government, without consulting what the Rabid Right in the US has to say!

Of course, I never said any such thing. Come to think of it though, since some Europeans think they should have a say in our election, maybe we should have a say in theirs.

What do you mean by ‘having a say’? Exercising your free speech or actually interfering with the result? I think most fair minded people would value American, or any other, commentary on their elections so long as it’s well informed. Frankly though, most people in the rest of the world are sick of the form your government uses to have its say.

You gotta problem with bullets and bombs?

Can’t figure out where Gest lives; marks ‘all the rest of the world’ on the ‘to bomb’ list.

We send them money, are they grateful?
No, they’re spiteful, and they’re hateful.
They all hate us anyhow
Let’s drop the big one now.
[/Randy Newman]

Most fair-minded people people would, certainly. Many of those who are not fair-minded have no compunctions about rigging elections here and abroad. It’s okay with them for us to be involved in Iraqi elections. It’s okay with them for other countries to be part of the coalition that fights in Iraq. It’s not okay with them for non-Americans to express an opinion about the next so-called “Leader of the Free World.”

I’m sure that milroyj is not like that.

Funny that here at the SDMB, that opinion has been mostly, if not exclusively, expressed by the board Leftists regarding those few non-American conservatives we have. (re: Sam Stone, mostly.)

I’d hardly say exclusively, or even mostly, though I won’t say it hasn’t happened. I’ve seen it from your side too. I’d call it a wash.

Cite?

And they should be smacked down as much as any right-winger who tries to muzzle dissent, foreign or otherwise.

I remember our moderate right wing contender for the Prime Ministership throwing a hissy fit when Richard Armitage implied vaguely threatening consequences if he pulled Australian troops out of Iraq upon winning the election. Latham’s angle was that a US official was interfering (again) in our domestic politics. What a fucking tool! The man was exercising his free speech FFS! Latham should have have criticised Armitage’s trivialising the alliance by linking its future to our stance on Iraq but Armitage certainly had the right (duty even?) to put forth his views and those of his administration.

Really Brutus, you’re my favourite righty tighty but is a tu quoque the only thing you have to fall back on?

Naw, he also has irrelevant invective, liberally bespattered with juvenile opprobrium.

I was pointing out how Zoe’s comment fitted the SDMB, not the whole world.

No, I am not going to go wading through every thread I’ve read since late 2001 in order to provide you a cite. You can believe me or not believe me, I don’t care.
