I agree with Bricker that we need more intelligent conservatives here. Presently all we have are a bunch of posters on the right who either lack the ability or interest to think through issues at any depth. All that we have are a bunch of folks who top out rhetorically at tu quoque

I can find batshit insane positions from the Republicans that are certifiably untrue about climate change, health care, nativism, and abortion. A few of those batshit insane ideas driving the current crop of Republican leaders (like going against abortion even in the case of rape) are based on religious reasons, something that a guy like you should already know how dumb is to use that to base one’s positions.
I’m suddenly reminded of the “SLIOTD” thread, where 9 times out of 10 when you posted a stupid liberal idea, you got it shoved back up your ass. I’m sorry, what was ignorant about what I said? That the batshit crazy is almost universally conservative? On a political level, this is absolutely true. Are there crazy liberals? Sure! Do they hold positions of political power? NO! And that’s the difference!
Of course there’s a liberal analogue to the rhetoric and insanity of Michelle Bachmann, or Ann Coulter, or Rush Limbaugh. I have liberal friends considerably crazier than anything the RNC has to offer. It’s just that the liberal crazies don’t run the show! I fucking challenge you - find a single thing said about republicans/conservatives by Der Trihs that I can’t match with something said by a national or state-level republican politician or an influential republican news personality about democrats/liberals. Oh wait, you can’t, because Ann Coulter is a thing.
Obama is a moderate. Reid is a moderate. Pelosi is not quite a moderate, but hardly a radical in the same way King or Bachmann or West is. The closest thing the democrats have to a “radical” is Elizabeth Warren, and while she may hold her beliefs strongly, her beliefs don’t include things that the scientific community has firmly rejected for decades, or which are countered by a vast majority of the research in the field. Her beliefs may not gel with the current overton window, but she’s clearly put some thought into it, and it isn’t just insane conspiracy-mongering.
But on the right? Acceptance of climatology is essentially a death knell. You have Bachmann, Palin, and co. arguing that defaulting on our debt is not a bad idea. That’s not only completely batshit insane, but to hear that from politicians on a national level should very well be deeply unsettling for the investors who keep our nation afloat.
There is NO EQUIVALENCY. None. Nada. Zip. You cannot compare the two parties, and any attempt to do so fails. Politically, scientifically, morally, from the perspective of the media, from the perspective of results, from the perspective of handling national disasters… Every single time, the republicans come out looking either incompetent or insane. What fucking planet are you on, huh?
Well I agree with little girls that think we need more unicorns and pegasusii. Conservatism isn’t about intelligence and conservatives are not intelligent except as a coincidence. Conservatives are about greed and self-interest. And hating on black people. Not in that order.
You know, it’s a bad thing when Bricker and anyone else make sweeping generalizations about liberals and it’s also a bad thing when sweeping generalizations about conservatives are made as well.
I know quite a few conservatives about whom I would say your statement is patently false. What applies to a part does not immediately apply to the whole.

To be fair, many of the above have self-identified as “libertarian” rather than “conservative,” but in my opinion those I listed have nonetheless in the recent past either staunchly defended a conventional conservative viewpoint, or in a public SDMB poll said they were voting for a Republican. YMMV. But as such, their posts on political topics should please Clothy’s political sensibilities much more often than offend them, I suspect. Hence their presence in the above list, which is by no means intended to be exhaustive.
Bottom line: who exactly are these many disaffected, self-exiled conservatives?

And manhattan only came back once to post about the kerfuffle about the sound artist and how he wanted posts deleted from the SDMB, and has not AFAIK posted before and since. So I think he has only technically not been driven away. When he left moderation, I believe he said he did so specifically because this board was actively hostile to conservatives.
But enough of this! Less serious discussion in my Pitting! Because I happen to know that Knorf uses the pictures and descriptions of the Master’s Tournament without the express written permission of the PGA, and that’s a felony and the only reason he hasn’t been gunned for it in cold blood is because he’s white!
