Shodan, I know you're too dumb for this Pitting to do any good, but...

From the Why can’t Obama close the deal thread.

Shodan, if you aren’t willing to tell me the post numbers of the rebuttal you imply is there (“You might want to read the thread” was your exact wording), then I must conclude that you’re being deliberately obscure.

Your purported motive for not producing those post numbers was that I might be “attempting another of your ridiculous attempts at a semantic hijack.” I had no idea such hijacks were so fearsome that you had to protect your rebuttals by putting them in a witness protection program.

What this really seems to be about is that if you pointed out your supposed rebuttal to me, I might either respond to it, or point out its complete and total insufficiency.

So instead, you’re playing some dumb “I’ve rebutted you somewhere in here, but I’m not going to tell you where” game.

Do you have any idea how stupid that is, even by the defining-idiocy-downwards standards I’m used to judging you by? It’s cowardly to boot, but I must admit it’s the too-stupid-for-kindergarten quality of it that truly impresses me. But kids in kindergarten usually grow up and get smarter over time.

Oops. Wrong forum?

Wrong forum. I notified a mod.

Ack - wrong forum! Mods, please move.

Thread’s been moved. I don’t want to say anything about calling people’s names and karma, but don’t you wonder sometimes?

Thanks! I refreshed the Pit main page, and when I didn’t see my thread, it was a :smack: moment.

Shodan’s Rule of Thumb: If they didn’t read it the first time, they won’t read it the second either.

I’m still savoring the irony of someone calling me dumb in a Pitting that he opens in the wrong forum.

Regards,
Shodan

That’s a weak comeback at best. The best of us have opened threads in incorrect forums. It’s a drawback of being able to have more than one tab or window open.

Fallability is what seperates us from… well nothing.

There is something to be said for not doggedly persisting in one’s error.

Maybe they read it, and were unable to draw the same meaning from it that the writer thought he’d put in it.

But I guess you’re still too chickenshit to find out.

The difference is, I realized my mistake in less than a minute, and immediately called attention to it.

Obviously, the same cannot be said about you.

Oooh, burn!!!

Regards,
Shodan

I’ll second that Shodan is stupid. His arguments in religious threads are laughable.

Not to mention he signs his posts. Smug and dismissive, that is.
Salutations,
Lobohan

I bet that was effective in kindergarten, too.

And I see your rebuttal in the original thread is still in the witness protection program.

I was just about to post that I have no personal beef with Shodan (as there have been no incidents between me and him)

and then I was going to tell him his posts weren’t emails.

I thought Shodan’s Rule of Thumbs was to remove them from his ass before composing a post, but I get the sense that for him it’s more of a loose guideline or suggestion than a rule.

No, he follows that rule reliably. It makes it easier for him to stick his head in there while writing posts.

I’m dumb, never mind :smack:

Not really, as I was dealing with the same sorts of personalities as here.

I never have understood the objections to signing a post. But you are right; it does feel like e-mail to me. Sometimes when I am writing a real e-mail, and the program does not automatically insert the signature for me, I have to stop myself from signing off with

Regards,
Shodan

instead of my real name. But, just to be obliging -

How about because it’s pointless and adds nothing to the post, and also comes across as kind of self-important?

Everybody pay attention to me,
Woody

For official emails I have a seven or eight line sig. For internals or reply I delete the first six or seven lines leaving ‘Regards, (my first name)’

Sometimes if the email is particularly informal (such as one of many replies in a game of email-tennis) I will have no sig at all.
Not to turn this back into a criticism - but every post is ‘sigged’ by the line of forum graphic before it showing your name, status, location etc… Not that signing your posts is worth a pitting, but it seems slightly redundant when there’s all that information up there  (not rolleyes, it’s a looking-up smiley)
I guess it’s a discussion for a MPSIMS thread - it’s slightly hypocritical of me to criticise signing posts for the reason that they are already signed, when I admit to signing emails, because emails come from me have my name on them anyway…
but that’s not a sig as such, just an identifier. Is a sig just an identifier or something more? Does a post that already has your ID on it need a sig?

I’ll go away now.
