Shoot, why'd ya go and close the "Describe it in three words" thread?

I think this would be a good idea.

Get a life. Though I think a cricket forum is long overdue.

That would be awesome.

A strain on resources is still an issue for the moment. Since our database is currently limited in size (a backend techinical issue with which I am not involved and about which I can’t answer any questions), game threads face the same restrictions. But, you’re right. We could probably do with some sticky updates in that forum.

Hell, not if I value my life. I mean, if closing three threads is this unpopular, I imagine closing them all down will mean no holiday gifts from the Dopers.

Plus, you’d probably lose your twee status.

Never. Cold hands. Dead hands. Pry and whatnot.

Long, long ago, when I actually cared a little bit, the closing of ultra huge threads was tied to board performance issues (in addition to the question of a few people* hogging the forum).

Has this changed since numerous upgrades? No, I don’t wish to be a part of any A Thread or Guess the Next Bitch! or OMFG, You Jackasses Again? threads, I’m just wondering. (ETA: Yes, I see the answer above, thanks)

*Yes, even if it has 20 or so regular posters, that’s still a few compared to the 172 people still subscribing to the SDMB. :stuck_out_tongue:

:dubious:

Seeing that we have a new server and other changes have taken place I’d think it would be a critical  update  . I don’t post much and I read the sticky thread before posting to the Lyric thread. I had sort (probably mistakenly) gotten the impression that anything in that sticky was almost certainly out of date.

And what pray tell give you the impression that your still on our Christmas card list?

That last sentence just don’t work if you replace Christmas with holiday does it.

I thought it was 168?

Skippy’s multiple personalities finally ponied up the dough.

A Games Forum would be neat.

(Just putting in my 1/2 a cent…if its even woth that much)

This would be great. I hope it happens. It would seem to solve several complaints at once. Thank you for letting us know and of course, you know many of us would really appreciate a new forum as you described.

Jim

So tell the board administration to take our fees, and the advertising dollars from our Google spam bar, and get us a real server. It just makes no sense that we’re all paying for this, and 8 searches in 4 minutes crashes the board. Until I see the numbers, I will never believe that this board runs at a loss, as has been the admin line for years.

Yup.

You’re welcome.

I’m sorry I never came back to join or host again but it just seemed that you and twickster were doing so well and seemed to be having a really fast-paced and fun game. I didn’t want to ruin or spoil it again, cause when I hosted, the game seemed to move slow (due to my own fault, I think).

But thank you for taking over (you too, twickster) and making it a fun and popular game for those in it.

Dunno if this has been mentioned/suggested yet (as I haven’t finished the thread and stopped only to quote this and reply to it) but that’d be a great idea. Furthermore, it’d be a good idea to make posts not count for that forum (if it ever gets the green light).

I hate to be the sole dissenter but I’m glad to see game threads closed eventually. I think of enormously long threads as something from those other boards…I mean you can always start a new game in a couple of weeks, can’t you? I would never ask for a game thread to be closed so don’t call me a spoilsport but I am happy when they are closed, even when I am playing (not that I play that often).

You’re welcome right back.

Idle Thoughts’, thought that the games & sports forums posts not count, sounds like a great idea, if it is feasible. Many posters seem to be hung up about post count and padding, like it actually mattered for some reason. This would remove that issue and objection to having such a forum.

Anaamika, I don’t understand your post, strange as this sounds, some of us only really post at the Dope. This is my only online community. I am not part of any other, though I occasionally read or browse a few others. I am not alone in this. What makes you happy about them being closed? They seem easy enough to ignore.

Jim

I’m curious to know why these threads are closed, while such legendary threads as “LoTR Written by Other Authors” and such were allowed to remain long enough to even get legendary.

Or did I miss a memo?
