So far, the only thing the news has gotten right the first time is that shots were fired in Connecticut?
The Governor looked shell-shocked. Looks like the police chief is going to hold his press conference sometime around 6:30 or 7.
I’ve read it’s an “unidentified female adult,” not his father. Apparently the bomb squad showed up at whatever house and found her. I haven’t seen anything about whose house it is or why the bomb squad was called, but I assume it was his house and looking for booby traps is standard procedure at this point.
NBC reporting the adult victim at the second crime scene was shot in the face, making ID difficult.
Ugh.
Also, reporting that the guns were registered to his mom.
Now they’re saying the corpse at the house was his mother and she didn’t die at the school after all.
I could correct some of the posted statements and add my own information based on what I’ve read, but I’ll defer. The reported facts will change again within the hour anyway. ABC news apparently has devoted their entire schedule to this tonight and will be adding a special Good Morning America tomorrow.
Maybe they should back off until they’ve got the story straight. False facts benefit nobody and may even make things worse.
Fuck. I just woke up a little while ago and turned on the 7am news and found this. This is really fucked up.
I can only hope this finally results in the gun nuts having their guns taken away from them, and I could not care less what those Bozos think of that sentiment.
Upon reading the NYT article, which said the guy was in full combat gear, this information may have been erroneous. Nobody could be dumb enough to allow someone dressed like that into a school, right? Right?
I’d mentioned before that we lost a dear friend in Aurora, Gordon, the father that yelled to his daughters as they fled the theater ‘that he loved them, he loved them both!’ right before he was killed. My parents just happened to be having lunch today with Gordon’s father George when they all learned of this latest massacre. “You never get over it. It haunts you every moment.” George said. No doubt and it’s Gordon’s two youngest, he had four, that were with him and continue to really struggle most with his loss.
The reach from this will be extraordinary and last a lifetime.
According to the latest I’ve read, he was wearing a bullet-proof vest and carrying three guns. I think it’s safe to say that no one just let him in, but it’s not clear how he *did *get in.
Well, he didn’t have a criminal record. There was no reason to assume her was up to no good. After all, he was just carrying inanimate objects in with him. Tools, really. Why would anybody be afraid of inanimate objects - except people who obviously just don’t understand them?
BBC is reporting the shooter was apparently buzzed in because he was known as the son of a teacher there. He was wearing a bulletproof vest, and it may not have been readily apparent that it was a bulletproof vest, and he may have been holding the guns at an angle that could not be seen on the cctv monitor if not outright concealing them.

As far as being let into a secure school…my son’s school has a buzzer system. You push the buzzer and someone speaks to you over an intercom. You say, “It’s Soandso’s mom,” and they buzz you right in. I’m not convinced that it’s a lot more secure than no system at all, unless they have forewarning that an armed crazy person is in the neighborhood.
What a sickening, tragic day. I turned off the tv…it’s just too much and I feel too helpless watching it unfold. 
The door at the school isn’t locked until 9:30 am, and it is my understanding that the first 911 calls came in either shortly before or shortly after that time, so it seems likely that the shooter just walked into the school not long after the start of the school day. A lot of security systems at schools are similar: The doors are left open while students are arriving, and then locked after everyone is present for the day.
I’m late to the thread and didn’t see after skimming, but are they attributing any motive yet? I mean, obviously bat shit insane, piece of malformed shit is a big part of it. What I mean is, other pyscho shooters were / felt persecuted or were making " a statment" and I just can’t wrap my mind around what statement is to be made, even in a lunatic’s head, by shooting little kids. Not that the reason matters much, but like many others have said “who the fuck shoots innocent children?” 
he killed his mother, a teacher. one tv interview with someone on motives stated that by killing his mothers students, who she cared for almost like family like many teachers might [or as the killer perceived she did], that it was killing her more completely or killing her again.
Was there ever any more info on the “other guy in the woods?” There were reports that they pulled some guy in camo and marched him to a police car, and he told the assembled patents “I didn’t do it”
Of our friends we visited in Connecticut in April, the wife is a teacher at a school in suburban Hartford. I’ve not heard from her yet although I’ve sent her a message, but I imagine she’s in shock right now.
