Info slow coming out = narrative still in progress
CNN reporting 5 dead.
No info on Captured alive shooter (Narrative still in making)
From a police page I follow the shooter is Estaban Santiago. He apparently ran out of bullets and laid down and waited for police.
Ari Fleischer, Dubya’s former press secretary, was actually at the airport; tweeted that he heard shots and saw people running.
Recently converted to Islam ???:dubious:
Video of his surrender show him walking up to the police. They should have ordered him to stop and strip. He could have had an explosive vest on.
They’re saying he flew with the weapon in checked baggage and had recently joined the military.
I’ve seen nothing about that online. I’ll give you a short time to show you are bringing actual information into the thread before I moderate you for politically hijacking a breaking news thread.
Are you commenting, quoting, or asking?
I know that was a simalpost so no moderating but please don’t continue. I’ll deal with it.
If he had a gun in his checked bag, why didn’t the airport find it? Are you allowed to do that? Any word on motivation yet? I assume not, the interrogation must be ongoing. What is his military affiliation?
Yes you are allowed to travel with a gun in checked baggage.
Must comply with local and federal laws. Here are the procedures:

ABC News reports he flew from Anchorage to Minneapolis-St Paul, then on to Ft Lauderdale. His weapon was legally in checked baggage for the flights. He entered a restroom where he loaded his weapon, then stepped out and started shooting. When he ran out of ammunition, he stopped where he was then arrested.
As long as the gun is declared ( and I think there are forms to fill out), it’s legal. It never crossed my mind that ammo was allowed also.
Can’t carry shampoo or lotion but bullets are OK. :old rolleyes:
Not much information. Puerto Rican descent, born in New Jersey, living in Alaska. Passengers told no other shooters. They’re escorting 4 ambulances onto the ramp.
You may be being facetious, but in reality all of those things are allowed in checked bags, none are allowed in carry on luggage.
FLL is my home airport. Until November, my office was across the street from it. We still have an office there.
I’m safe, and I believe all my friends and family are as well. I do have two friends who have been out of the country, but we’re fairly certain they aren’t scheduled to come back yet…it’s overnight there and they are probably just asleep. I have one friend who flew out before this happened, and one who is in San Francisco trying to fly here.
Facebook activated their safety check-in system. I marked myself safe, and started getting texts from out-of-town
friends asking what was going on.
It’s a bit surreal to be watching this. I’ve been there hundreds of times.
Eye Witness reports are only thing he said during rampage was “I am not a Jew” ,“I am not a Jew” …
