Who were his victims? Is there any chance he was targeting refugees (who presumably are mostly Sunni)?
He was targeting teenagers. And civilians. This Sunni/Shia thing is silly. There were French Nazis, Americans working for the Soviets, etc.
No refugees, according to the police they were mostly teens, born in Germany, part of them with Kosovar (3 of them), Turkish, Greek and Hungarian ancestry (victims’ full names will not be published; this is usual in Germany). Sounds like the typical mix of people you’ll encounter in a McDonald’s and shopping center in a lower middle class urban area. The police says no indication that specific individuals or groups were targeted. The shooter may have used an event by a faked or hacked Facebook account to lure teens to the McDonald’s at that specific time.
Police say the shooter had been treated for depression and anxiety disorder, apparently had researched spree shootings since about one year ago when he had visited site the 2009 Winnenden shooting. On his computer was a manifesto of his; not yet published and it may never be (it would be the right thing IMO if it were not published, just conclusions from it communicated to the public).
The gun was a theater gun (a Glock made unusable as a gun), later illegally made usable and illegally sold via a darknet market.
