Shootings at Chattanooga military facilities leave 4 Marines, gunman dead

Deja Vu. Same thing happened in my city in 2009. I drive by that location several times a week.

Another senseless attack on our military’s recruitment centers. :frowning:

Seems pretty obvious why. They’ll probably find posts from this nut on the web somewhere.

Much more details here at ABC 15 news

Of course the important thing is to call it terrorism, as if that changes anything. Yeah, he might have been an ISIS dude, most likely a lone wolf but let’s find out. I’m just sorry that it’s going to add fuel to the fire for Islamophobes.

What? He’s not a troubled mentally ill youth? Quelle surprise!

The biggest and most important question is what can be done about the spread of extremism. What turned a seemingly well adjusted kid into a murderer. If he did become a Muslim extremist then its imperative we find out who he was influenced by and who provided the material.

We have to figure out a solution and soon. There’s too many bright kids getting radicalized. Many going off to fight with groups like ISIS. The ones that stay home are the biggest concern.

The Southern Poverty Law Centerwent after the KKK with lawsuits. Holding them directly responsible for the hate they spread and the people that acted on their behalf. That might be a solution here too. Go after these radical clerics and their web sites with lawsuits. Take away their money, seize their assets and that effectively shuts them down. The KKK still hasn’t recovered from their losses.

just one idea. I’m sure many remedies are being looked at. We need to make this the highest priority. Find a legal way to get those web sites shut down. Then go after the radical Clerics and hold them accountable.

Everyone discussing this has decided to use it as a springboard for diving in to their pet agenda pools.

Unlike the KKK, the Islamic “State” would probably try to kill folks who did that.

Yet another killing spree from what you downplayed as a “lone wolf” (as if this matters) and you’re worried about what exactly? The dreaded retaliation cartoons?

I dunno, they’re pretty mean dudes, but we’re talking about lawyers here. I don’t think ISIS has had to deal with anything quite that scary.

When did a 24 year old college graduate become a kid?

In other words, prolly not a 22 rimfire.

News reports say as a high school kid he was ok. Earned a college degree. Sometime or other he must have started reading radical material online and maybe a local Mosque filled his head with hate. That will all come out in the investigation.

That’s whats so disturbing about these radical web sites. People are being influenced and changed right in their homes and no one even knows about it. Until a pressure cooker bomb goes off at a public event or some guy with a rifle starts shooting at a military recruitment station.

It’s just going to get worse until somehow the world’s governments find a way to put a stop to these web sites. At least get them off the search engines and make them harder to find.

Since I turned 50, roughly… :frowning:

Really Bob innocent people killed and THIS is your first concern?

Easy case for the DOJ to solve. Clearly another case of sidewalk violence.

All the recreational grief in the world isn’t going to bring back the people murdered. What I object to is that some people will use it as fuel for the Islamophobic fire. The right wing media is already using the incident to recycle long-debunked lies about Bill Clinton, as Fox “News” blames him for the shooting.

Debunked by Snopes.

Significant?

OK, but since, as you say, there needs to be an investigation, maybe we can dial back the knee-jerk “radical ISIS websites are coming to get our kids!” talk–or at least just put it off a day or two?

It is a bit weird that civilians can walk around armed (at least in Tennessee), but military personnel are not to be trusted with carrying weapons.

Do you really think that suppressing information will be a successful tactic?

What other information would you like to suppress? In the name of freedom, of course.

I think a much better idea would be to interview the—oh, wait, he has been killed. Can’t happen.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, despite the positive reports from friends, neighbours, and colleagues, that an Arab kid growing up in small-town Tennessee post 9/11 had had to put up with a lot of shit. Being an immigrant is hard enough at the best of times; it’s a long way, culturally, from Kuwait to Chattanooga. I would also not be surprised if that situation had festered, and provided fertile ground for radicalization.

Of course, I haven’t the faintest idea, and by the time anyone does have good information, it will either be classified or we will have forgotten this due to the six or seven other mass shootings that have happened in the meantime.

Aaaaaaaand once again, the bodies are barely cold, and we have liberals racing to insist that, while REAL dead Marines are unfortunate, the greater danger is that somewhere, a hypothetical Islamophobe might be rearing his ugly head!

Tell me, Bob, were you equally upset when Dylan Roof was being treated as a “terrorist”?
