Speaking of radicalizing young people, here is the testimony of the father of one such young man.
I sympathize with that father - he clearly had nothing to do with the radicalization of his son. The Tennessee shooter’s father, on the other hand, is a Palestinian who was investigated several years ago for donating money to an organization “possibly connected to a foreign terrorist organization” and was on a terrorist watch list.
sigh. This is all too familiar.
Military personnel have the same rights to carry firearms as civilians, generally, but their options get more limited when on duty or when on a military installation.
Ok.
Let me change it then. It is weird that military personnel are not trusted to carry firearms when on duty or when on a military installation.
Different countries and circumstances, of course, but in the IDF, soldiers do carry firearms, on duty, on base and on leave. They are trusted not to misuse them, and the incidents of such misuse are extremely rare.
Not sure how this will be implemented. I guess its up to the General to decide who needs to be armed on duty.
People are weirdly anal-obsessive with the word “terrorist”. How many people do you have to kill to be a terrorist? Was Manson a terrorist? Was the University of Texas shooter? Call him a terrorist. Fine. Don’t call him one. Fine. It’s the same fucking result. You investigate what might have been the motivation, you go through his contacts, you try to determine if there were any accessories. So it’s like a crime investigation, which it is. Yet every time one of these things happen, the right wing gets all bent out of shape if Obama doesn’t sprint to a microphone and utter the word “terrorism” the instant the news breaks.
Now we can have a national pity party about how these dead guys were the most awesome people in recorded history and how everything is ruined forever. We can demonize all Muslims for this action. Or we can try to make some sense of this and see if there are warning signs that we should be picking up on. Maybe we have to ban or limit travel to certain nations or have those returning from those nations interviewed on return. We can do some things that make sense without trampling on religious freedom. Or we can try to be opportunists and blame the Democrats for not allowing the recruiters to pack heat (which has already been debunked but when it comes to slander and libel, lies become truth by repetition).
Time to update the title: the fifth victim has died (a Naval petty officer):
