I’ve noticed my wife has this habit of getting a yearning for shopping while we are on vacation.
And what bothers me is that she wants to shop at the same stores that are in our hometown. I mean, c’mon,doesn’t Target in Costa Mesa California have the same stuff as the Target in Victorville?
I mean, we’ll go on vacation to Disneyland or maybe Phoenix Arizona, and then my wife will be like “hey, lets go shopping, theres’s a WalMart right up the street”, and I’ll be like “Honey, theres a WalMart in Barstow, you were just there two days ago”. ANd then she’ll respond “But I havent been to this one”!
Whats up with that? Why do women so enjoy the shopping experience?
There may be some kind of emotional or psychological reason for all this, but I’ll let someone else handle it.
I always seem to wind up shopping while on vacation, especially if I’m with other women. You just never know what you’re going to find, and I don’t think every store has exactly the same stock at the same time. With me, I usually shop a lot online when I’m at home and don’t get out to the stores much at all, but when I’m traveling, I physically go shopping because:
I can’t do things online when on vacation;
shopping can be gratifying and a stress reliever, which is what I’m looking for in a vacation;
Well, I will say that men and women look at shopping differently. Men tend to go into a store knowing what they are looking for. Women tend to have more of a zen like quality to their shopping, making it more of a shopping experience.
Well, I shop when I am on vacation, though I tend to visit stores that aren’t available where I live. However, to shed a little light onto this mystery.
No, all stores of the same chain do not carry the same merchandise. If a store does a higher volume of sales it will get a broader assortment. Prices are also not always the same (aside from sales tax differences)some companies use what they call “Regional Pricing.”
Other times, depending on location climate the assortment of goods will be different. Meaning you’ll start to see winter goods in colder climates before they’ll hit your barstow location, and you’ll have summer goods in the warmer climates later than in the cooler climates.
Besides, ya get good exercise walking the store aisles (and bargains to boot!)
You know, she does come back in a lot better mood after she’s done shopping!
Perhaps this is like the male tendency to hunt down animals. Maybe women need to hunt down “bargains” in unfamiliar stores. Perhaps this is their way of answering natures call of getting the most resources for their family at the cheapest price!
Just say, “OK, drop me off at that sport’s bar.” Even if you don’t drink or follow sports, at least you are not left trying to decide which candle is prettiest for the living room.
When we were planning our recent trip to Las Vegas, one of the things my wife wanted to do was visit the Belz factory outlet store at the south end of the Strip.
I also remember that many years ago when a bunch of us went to Orlando FL, after we got there all the wives insisted on making at least one trip to some shopping mall in addition to the previously planned days at Disney, Universal, Sea World and the Space Center.
