No, you wouldn’t, not if you’re a True Doper.
:dubious: For . . . ?

Well, you don’t want someone to go out and rob a bank with that abortion, now do you?
I’m from the Philly suburbs, but close enough, and yes I heard about that. It didn’t come to mind because it was over a year ago plus, in the context of this thread I assumed that you meant a waiting period for the mother, not the doctor.
In that context, doctors go through years of training and are licensed. What more are you suggesting, that they go through a background check before every single termination?
Sigh.
As if women are actually going out and getting abortions willy-nilly without thinking about it.
It hasn’t been brought up yet, but there is a major difference here. The 10 day waiting period on guns isn’t for the potential gun owner to think about the decision to own a firearm. It’s presumably to allow for background checks on the person purchasing a firearm. I suppose it’s obvious, but I believe in spelling these things out for posters who clearly don’t get it.
And unless I’m gravely mistaken, no background checks are necessary (nor should they be necessary) to have an abortion. A known felon having an abortion is not a potential threat to society, while the same felon acquiring a weapon would clearly be such a threat.
A waiting period on abortions wouldn’t be “fair” because the purpose isn’t to run background checks on the women involved. The sole purpose to get them to reconsider their position. Clearly, the same “right” is NOT involved. False equivalence out the wazoo.
ETA: Oh, the doctors. Really? Years of training and requirement to maintain their expertise through licensing and regular training doesn’t compare to a waiting period? Really? Again - false equivalence out of various orifices.
*Disclaimer: Gun owner and possessor of a concealed handgun license in Texas (I know - the internet, where you can claim anything - but I’ve consistently claimed the details for a couple years on these boards and CHL is pretty Texas specific vs CCW), where there is no waiting period to purchase firearms - though there is a nearly instant FBI database spot check, and I’d still rather a longer, more thorough investigation considering the numbnut asshats who get firearms and CHLs but shouldn’t be trusted with a dull spoon, much less explosive devices and conceal permits.
**Dec 2012 join date. Why am I not surprised? It’s not quite July/August 2012 territory, but December is turning out to be quite the month for new posters.
***I know Texas gets a bad rap (actually, I moved here from Arkansas), but there are actually reasonable gun owners here who would be ok with additional restrictions. One of my friends was thinking of starting a Democrat Gun Owners of Texas group to show some of us are on board with reasonable restrictions on gun ownership/use and not completely and utterly insane. We try to fight the good fight but outnumbered is outnumbered.
Scarier and stickier than a gun, at any rate . . .

nice to meet you anti bob, nice handle, I considered* anti-chris* but didn’t go with it.

Why not, no law against it, many women choose to terminate based on race or gender, so as soon as they find out they’re pregnant with a girl they terminate. Very popular in CA. Illegal in AZ.

I suppose it’s obvious, but I believe in spelling these things out for posters who clearly don’t get it. the ten day period was also called “the cooling off period”
so you could cool off before impulsive killing, so it was for backgrounds and to give the buyer time to reflect…this isn’t some right wing gun nut saying this, it comes from uber liberal law center to prevent gun violence Waiting Periods | Giffords
And unless I’m gravely mistaken, no background checks are necessary (nor should they be necessary) to have an abortion. A known felon having an abortion is not a potential threat to society, while the same felon acquiring a weapon would clearly be such a threat. women living in AZ are prohibited from terminating for gender selection purposes, background checks would help prevent gendercide or termination tourist.

Clearly, the same “right” is NOT involved. False equivalence out the wazoo.like I said, law center for gun violence and history clearly say you’re wrong, the waiting period was passed and currently the liberals say is need as a cooling off period see my link to LCPGV a well respected ( by liberals ) progressive pressure group.

there is big money in abortions, we cant let someone who just lost his license terminate girls in another state.

yeah, its when I was born, I was born yesterday OK! there you got me!I mean really, is that some kind of meme here? when you cant attack the argument you attack the person?? oooh way to fight ignorance doooooood!
No, the idea is stupid.
gunchris, this is exactly the kind of thoughtful, reasoned argument for gun rights that we on the pro-second amendment side need to put forth more often in order to be seen as rational advocates for our side of the policy debate.
Oh, wait, no, the other thing. Not that.
I get it. You want people to think that gun rights supporters are incapable of reason. I call Poe’s Law.
Don’t forget the multicolored text! That’s always convincing! Especially bright yellow on white.
I feel like we’ve been mustarded and ketchuped, if I may promote those to verbs. Not sure yet how it stacks up against being graped.
Surely there won’t be a ten day wait for an abortion in the case of grape.
Well, not if it’s legitimate grape.
Actually, haven’t there been proposals for just this, or am I thinking of something similiar?
More like 24 hour waiting periods, probably because they are even more inconvenient.
After a bit of searching, the longest in the nation is apparently Utah with 72 hours.
How long should someone be made to wait before getting gay married?
Wait?! Heck; everyone knows it’s part of the Gay Agenda that it be made mandatory!
