Simple question does Kamala Harris bring anything substantive to the ticket? Has she proven a willingness to work and provide leadership on her assigned tasks to represent the President?
She’s been given important tasks like border security and immigration. It appears that she has consistently avoided visting the area. The perception is she knows there’s no easy solution and she doesn’t want any blimish on her reputation.
I expect a person tasked with that job to represent the President. Show leadership! Put together a task force. Talk to the landowners that are effected every day by immigrants using it as pathways. Maybe work out financial compensation. Kamela should be meeting with border patrol. What resources do they need? How should they implement policy?
It’s a big job to represent the President and keep him briefed. She’s been tasked with others things. I can’t remember what they are because nothing gets done afterwards. The issue and her name dies in the news.
Kamela’s hands are clean because she doesn’t risk diving into hot problems. No one expects her or any representative to fix the problem. They can investigate and make recommendations to provide resources and mitigate the problems.
We’re being ask to reelect a President of advanced age. There’s a very good chance he’ll die in office. We have to have a proven leader as backup. Someone that is willing to get dirty and not worry about soiling their political reputation.
Roosevelt had several VP’s. There is no reason for Biden to keep a unreliable VP.
Not this again. No, he shouldn’t. It would be seen as a massively disrespectful move towards Harris, who has been nothing but supportive of Biden, and could alienate many people who like Harris. She hasn’t screwed up as VP, she hasn’t had any scandals, she hasn’t done anything that would warrant removal. And while the VP’s role in any administration is limited by their nigh-nonexistent power and responsibility, she’s been there whenever she’s been needed for Biden’s policy agenda.
The best VP’s are lightening rods. They take the heat away from the President. Sometimes the President will test the waters through his VP. That way he can change course without losing popularity.
When people say the VP has done nothing wrong that indicates to me it’s by design. She avoids saying or doing anything political. Even when tasked with duties by the President.
Harris fits into this model pretty clearly — she’s been given important and difficult issues to address. Like some other post-Mondale vice presidents — Al Gore for example — she’s been assigned to head up specific policy areas, like abortion and reproductive rights, voting rights and immigration, as well as some other foreign policy assignments. She’s also leading the National Space Council.
She has visited the border, by the way. Probably not for as many photo ops as many right wing idiots in Congress do, but so what? It’s not like the VP is going to man a border checkpoint and frisk migrants.
Well, she’ll be our next President. Imho there’s no way Biden will survive a 2nd Presidental term. His health and mental fitness is too fragile. 4 more years is a very, very long time for a man in his eighties.
Ironically that includes Trump. I seriously doubt he can last through 4 more years either.
It’s not clear that Harris helps much in that area:
But her historic role is also a very challenging one: She’s charged with bringing descriptive representation to the White House, but it’s not clear that she’s enjoying especially strong favor with the underrepresented groups she belongs to, even as she has weathered racist and sexist attacks and possibly lost support as a result. - SOURCE
What good would it do for her to visit the southern border? She has better info there in Wash DC. And yes, there is no easy answer, Not to mention she did visit El Paso.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ effort to tackle root causes of migration from Central America has yielded more than $4.2 billion in private sector commitments, but border crossings remain high amid mass migration in the Western Hemisphere…Republicans seized on the assignment, dubbing Harris the “border czar” – a title the White House rejected, arguing that her focus was on long-term fixes. And last year, as an affront to Harris, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, began busing migrants to her residence at the Naval Observatory.
Right.
And the border isnt a real issue. The migrants arent causing any issues, in fact since unemployment is at an all time low, they are helping our economy.
And “security”? What you think Mexico is gonna invade?
No it isnt. His health seems better than trumps. No doubt it is a stressful job, sure.
You could actually say the same about Trump and Pence.
But disrespect for others is part of Trump’s brand. If the race comes down to a choice between two candidates that treat their closest associates poorly, I think swing voters would go for the genuine article, DJT.
Another question we could ask is — should Harris, all on her own, with not a bit of urging from the Biden camp, refuse to run for another VP term? I’d say that, unless she hates her job, no.
Regardless of her ability and accomplishments, it shouldn’t effect your vote. If Trump is the alternative, she could be everything you implied in the OP and she and Biden should still get your vote. If you value our country.
I painfully aware that Trump can’t be allowed to win. I’m hoping third party R candidates could do just enough in swing states to edge Trump out. But that’s needs its own thread in elections. Lets not dwell on strategy here.
Biden needs to stay healthy and mentally fit until January 20th, 2025. Nothing against the guy, but anything after that is gravy. Should he become incapacitated, I’m comfortable with Harris taking over. She’d most likely be best served by choosing a VP with extensive congressional experience in that scenario.
Harris may be boring, but she’s plenty competent and intelligent. It comes down to a choice of her possibly assuming the POTUS slot, or electing an unhinged whackjob with zero interest in serving the interests of the American people. Gee, tough choice there.
